Halloween costume safety: what the US consumer safety agency says
These points come from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Halloween safety tips (first published October 2022). They are US guidance used here as general information; we did not find or check a Philippine equivalent for this guide, and this is not medical advice.
- Choose a well-fitting costume; avoid long or baggy styles that cause trips and falls.
- Keep loose, flowing fabric away from open flames. The agency prefers polyester or nylon to sheer cotton or rayon, but says any fabric can burn.
- Make sure mask eye and nose openings allow full vision and easy breathing; makeup can be a safer alternative to a mask.
- Add reflective tape to costumes and outerwear, wear bright colours and carry a flashlight or glow stick.
- In the CPSC’s figures, 25% of Halloween injuries in US emergency departments came from falls, including tripping on costumes.

Kiumo gives the clearest size chart of the six: chest, clothes length, pants length, waist and the advised height for each size. For a costume that has to fit over clothes and allow walking, that is the information a parent needs. The 4.97 rating comes from a shop that is under two years old.
Do not read “Disney” as licensed. The listing does not say so, and the Disney, Marvel and DC costumes we found from an official fashion shop cost at least ₱2,299. The odd “HPot” size names suggest the listing was copied from another costume.
