Our verdict

There is no such thing as an “FDA-approved” lunch box: the FDA Philippines registers food, not kitchenware, and no listing we read shows a registration or safety mark. The only electric lunch boxes we could rank are two from Bear’s official shop, both 61/100: the 2 L DFH-S2358 (about ₱667 per litre) has the clearer listing, and the 1.35 L DFH-B13E5 (₱1,000) is the cheaper one.

Most electric lunch boxes on Shopee are unbranded imports, including the best-selling ones, and we did not rank them. This is general information, not medical advice.

We searched Shopee for self heating lunch box, electric lunch box, heating bento box and self-heating food containers on October 30, 2026, by brand and by store, searched the FDA Philippines portal for lunch boxes and heating products, and read the listings of the main sellers. We ranked only a known brand sold by its official shop.

Is any lunch box “FDA-approved”?

No. In the Philippines the FDA registers and approves food products, food supplements, drugs, cosmetics (by notification) and medical devices. When we searched its verification portal for “lunch” and “heating”, the results were luncheon meat, food records and public health warnings against unregistered food, not lunch boxes or food containers. A listing that says “FDA approved” or “FDA certified” for a lunch box is not pointing to a registration we can find. We did not find an authoritative Philippine rule that requires reusable stainless steel lunch boxes to be registered; the FDA has a voluntary certification for packaging used on prepackaged foods, which is a different thing. Confirm with the FDA if you need certainty.

“Food-grade” and “BPA free” are likewise the sellers’ wording: neither listing shows a test report or standard.

What to check instead: the PS and ICC safety marks

An electric lunch box is a mains-powered heater. Per a GMA News report of 28 June 2026, the DTI urges buyers to check the PS mark (locally made) or ICC sticker (imported) on appliances, which indicate compliance with government quality and safety requirements, and to verify PS marks with the ICC Verification App. The report says the DTI is monitoring online marketplaces, where sellers must display PS or ICC certifications for covered products, and that defective appliances can cause fires. We could not confirm whether electric lunch boxes are on the mandatory list, and neither Bear listing shows a mark. Ask the seller whether the unit carries a PS or ICC mark before buying. General advice, not a finding about these products.

Listings we would be careful with

ProductWhat we foundOur check
Hug Portable Electric Lunch Box (KXD series), shop Hug 888The best seller in our searches (10K+ sold, 4,875 ratings, from ₱549), in a shop open since April 2018 with 310K followers. But the listing says “Welcome to HUG Official Store” while Shopee does not mark the shop as official, names no maker or model approval, shows no PS or ICC mark, and gives a 1-month warranty on the main unit only. The warranty excludes accessories. Not scored: unknown brand; no maker identified
VIVA Home Living “Portable Electric Lunch Box 304 Stainless Steel” (rechargeable)A ₱890 unbranded rechargeable unit with a built-in 7200 mAh battery. The listing’s warranty attribute says “No Warranty” and gives no battery safety information. Not scored: unbranded; battery; no warranty
Pandacook Electric Lunchbox HeaterA shop open since May 2024 with 403 followers; “food grade ABS” and “food grade stainless steel” are claimed, no warranty is given, and no brand or maker is named. Not scored: new shop; unbranded; no warranty
Unbranded USB and power bank heating boxesListings of 600 ml to 900 ml USB-powered boxes from regular shops, the ones we saw had five ratings or fewer, with no maker, no warranty and no safety mark. Not scored: unbranded; thin ratings
Self-heating instant rice and hot pot meals (Mr. Squirrel, Zihaiguo, Haidilao)These are single-use meals with a heating pack, not lunch boxes. Haidilao self-heating hot pots have FDA food registrations (FR-4000014204517 and FR-4000014177057, valid to 1 July 2028). We found no registry record for the Zihaiguo brand or for Mr. Squirrel self-heating rice, which we searched by name. Not scored: a different product; some unregistered by our search
Insulated lunch jars (Zojirushi, Tiger, Thermos)Well-known brands from official or long-standing shops, but they keep food warm and do not heat it. Zojirushi lunch jars were ₱2,599 to ₱3,630 on Shopee. Not scored: no heating function
Check the shop, the model and the safety mark before buying any plug-in heater. Prices from our Shopee searches on 30 October 2026.

In the boxMain unit, three stainless steel containers, measuring cup, reusable bag, power cord, instruction manual
Claims“Keep the food hygienic and nutritious”; “more than 24 hours long-term preservation”; “safe cooking”
InconsistenciesThe attribute says 2 layers; the description says 3. The materials list stainless steel and Teflon (a non-stick coating) without saying where each is used. The attribute calls it a “Thermos Food Jar”, but it is a plug-in heater. No PS or ICC safety mark is shown.
SellerBear Flagship Store, an official Shopee shop since July 2023 (30.5K followers, 4.88 shop rating, 99% response). Listing 4.92 from 186 ratings; search shows 633 sold.
Price₱1,334, about ₱667 per litre (30 October 2026)

This Bear model ranks first because its listing gives the most checkable detail: model number, voltage, power, size, weight, the liner material and what is in the box. It is sold by the brand’s official shop, which gives a 90-day replacement warranty.

It plugs into a socket, so it is for an office or home, not a bag or a commute. “Food-grade” and “BPA free” are the seller’s words with no test report shown, and the listing never shows a PS or ICC mark. Ask the seller before buying (see below).

Why it scored well

  • Model, wattage, voltage and size stated
  • Official brand shop; 90-day warranty
  • Box contents listed

Watch-outs

  • Layer count and material details contradict
  • No PS or ICC mark shown
  • Plug-in only; “24-hour preservation” has no test

2. Bear Portable Electric Lunch Box 1.35L, 2-layer, model DFH-B13E5 (Bear Flagship Store)

ShopeeLazada

61/100

3.1

1.35 L, 2 stainless liners

270 W, plug-in

90-day replacement warranty

About ₱741 per litre

FDA statusNot applicable. No FDA Philippines registry covers lunch boxes or kitchenware.
Specifications statedModel DFH-B13E5; 270 W; 1.35 L; 18.6 x 18.6 x 16.4 cm; two stainless steel containers (1 L and 0.35 L) in PP plastic housing; “304 stainless steel”; “BPA free”; one-button switch; anti-dry-burning protection; mains-powered; made in China
Variants“1.35L / Blue, 2 layer” ₱1,000; “2L / White, 3 layer” ₱1,350
ClaimsSame wording as the 2 L listing: “hygienic and nutritious”, “more than 24 hours preservation”
InconsistenciesThe listing mixes the 2 L model’s specification (220V, Teflon, three containers) with the 1.35 L model. No voltage or weight is given for the 1.35 L unit. No PS or ICC mark is shown.
SellerBear Flagship Store, an official Shopee shop since July 2023. Listing 4.87 from 139 ratings; search shows 548 sold; warranty is replacement only.
Price₱1,000 for the 1.35 L variant, about ₱741 per litre; ₱1,350 for the 2 L variant (30 October 2026)

The 1.35 L model is the cheaper way into the same brand. It holds one main container and one small one, enough for rice and a side dish for one person.

Its listing is looser than the 2 L one: specifications for two models are mixed, and it gives no voltage or weight for the model you are buying. If you want the 2 L version, the first listing is ₱16 cheaper than this listing’s 2 L variant and describes it more clearly.

Why it scored well

  • Cheapest from an official brand shop
  • Compact
  • Same 90-day warranty

Watch-outs

  • Specifications for two models mixed
  • No voltage or weight for 1.35 L
  • No PS or ICC mark shown

How to choose an electric lunch box

  • Decide where you will use it. Both Bear units plug into a socket, so they suit an office or home, not travel. Rechargeable units exist, but the ones we saw were unbranded.
  • Ignore “FDA approved”. Look for a named brand, a model number, wattage and voltage, and a PS or ICC mark; ask the seller for the mark if the listing does not show it.
  • Check the materials: which parts are stainless steel, which are plastic, and whether a Teflon-type coating is used.
  • Compare price per litre and the warranty: from about ₱667 per litre with a 90-day replacement warranty (Bear 2 L) to ₱741 (Bear 1.35 L) on 30 October 2026.
  • Buy from the brand’s official shop. Skip shops that call themselves “official” without Shopee’s official label.
  • Keep food safe: this is general advice, not a finding about these products. Reheat cooked food until steaming hot, do not leave it in the box for long periods, and do not use the box to cook raw meat unless the manual says so.

How we researched this guide

We searched Shopee by keyword and by brand for self heating lunch box, electric lunch box, heating bento box and food warmers on October 30, 2026, checked each main shop’s profile and read the main listings in full. We searched the FDA Philippines verification portal for lunch boxes and heating products. We scored products with our published rubric: provenance and registration (25), disclosure (20), claims (20), consistency (10), seller record (15) and value (10); where no registration applies, provenance is scored on brand and seller. We did not test any product.

Only a known brand from its official shop was ranked, so this guide is built around what to check rather than a long list. The food safety and PS/ICC points are general information. This guide has not yet been reviewed by our health content reviewer, and we have not checked the Shopee affiliate programme’s rules for this category.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best self-heating lunch box in the Philippines?

Of the lunch boxes we could document, the Bear 2 L electric lunch box (DFH-S2358) and the Bear 1.35 L (DFH-B13E5) both scored 61/100. Both are sold by Bear's official Shopee shop and both plug into a socket.

Is there an FDA-approved lunch box?

The FDA Philippines registers food, drugs, cosmetics and medical devices; our search of its portal found no lunch box records. A listing that says "FDA approved" for a lunch box does not point to a registration we can find.

Are electric lunch boxes food safe?

The listings say "food grade", "BPA free" and "304 stainless steel", but show no test report. Those are the seller's words. Check the materials and ask about a safety mark.

What are the PS and ICC marks?

A GMA News report of 28 June 2026 says the DTI urges buyers to check the PS mark on local appliances and the ICC sticker on imported ones, which indicate compliance with government quality and safety requirements.

Do the Bear lunch boxes have a PS or ICC mark?

Neither listing shows one, and we could not confirm whether electric lunch boxes are on the mandatory list. Ask the seller.

Why did you not rank the Hug electric lunch box?

It is the best seller, but the brand and maker are not identified, the listing says "official store" for a shop Shopee does not mark as official, and the warranty is one month on the main unit only.

Can I carry a Bear electric lunch box around?

Both Bear listings say the box is mains-powered, with a detachable cord, and "not charged and wireless", so you need a socket to heat the food.

What is the cheapest official-shop electric lunch box?

The Bear 1.35 L at ₱1,000 on 30 October 2026, or the 2 L at ₱1,334 (about ₱667 per litre).

Are self-heating meals the same as self-heating lunch boxes?

No. Self-heating rice and hot pot meals are single-use food packs with a heating pack. Haidilao self-heating hot pots have FDA food registrations; we found none for Zihaiguo or Mr. Squirrel self-heating rice.

Is a thermos lunch jar the same as a heated lunch box?

No. Zojirushi, Tiger and Thermos lunch jars keep food warm but have no heating element.

Does Teflon matter on a lunch box?

The Bear 2 L listing lists Teflon among its materials without saying where it is used. If this matters to you, ask the seller which parts are coated.

Did you test these lunch boxes?

No. We read the listings, checked the shops and the FDA registry, and scored what the sellers put in writing.
