Our verdict
No vitamin will make you stay alert through a graveyard shift, and most “energy” and “stamina” products are not worth your money. Two supplements have a reasonable case for night workers: vitamin D, because shift workers tend to have lower levels, and melatonin for daytime sleep, with caution. B vitamins help if you are deficient, not otherwise.
For vitamin D, Generiq D3 1,000 IU (61/100) is the better-checked listing. Dr. Daily D3 (47/100) is a popular alternative with a messier listing. For melatonin, see the three registered options in our sleep supplements guide.
Ask a doctor about a vitamin D blood test before taking high doses. Do not drive or do safety-critical work until melatonin sleepiness has cleared. See a doctor if you are always exhausted, fall asleep at work or while driving, or cannot sleep during the day for weeks.
Working nights in a call center or an online job changes your sleep, your light exposure and your meals. Shopee fills the gap with “energy”, “focus” and “night shift” supplements. This guide sorts what has some evidence from what does not, and checks the vitamin D products against FDA records.
13 studies
in a 2022 meta-analysis found lower vitamin D levels in shift workers than in other workers, though the studies varied widely and were all cross-sectional.
What to consider, and what to skip
| Supplement | What the evidence says | Our advice |
|---|---|---|
| Vitamin D3 | A 2022 meta-analysis of 13 cross-sectional studies found lower 25-OH vitamin D in shift workers (mean difference −1.85, high heterogeneity). A 2017 review reported the highest deficiency prevalence in shift workers, though the figure comes from pooled occupational data. These studies show a link, not that supplements improve how you feel at work. | Reasonable to consider; ask a doctor about a blood test |
| Melatonin | The 2025 AASM guideline conditionally suggests melatonin for people with shift work disorder and insomnia after a night shift (very low certainty). It may increase sleepiness and accident risk for a while. A Cochrane review (via a secondary summary) found about 24 more minutes of daytime sleep, with low-quality evidence. | A modest option, timed before daytime sleep. See our sleep guide. Do not drive until the sleepiness clears |
| B vitamins / “energy” B-complex | We found a 2023 trial in healthy young adults (not shift workers), and a statement that B12 supplements do not improve energy in people without a deficiency. Fatigue is a symptom of B12 deficiency. | Skip unless a doctor finds a deficiency. Get tested if you are tired all the time |
| “Energy”, “focus” and “night shift” blends | We found no trial of these products in night workers. Many contain caffeine or herbs. | Skip; check the FDA portal and the label for caffeine if you do buy one |
| Magnesium | A 2023 systematic review found the link between magnesium and sleep uncertain in randomised trials. | No ranking; weak evidence |

Why night workers are told to watch vitamin D
- Less daylight. You sleep in the day and work in artificial light, so you may get less sun. The studies we saw link shift and indoor work to lower vitamin D, but they do not show that taking a supplement fixes tiredness.
- Test first if you can. A blood test (25-OH vitamin D) tells you whether you are low. A doctor can advise a dose.
- Do not stack. Many multivitamins, calcium and fish-oil products also contain vitamin D. Add up the IU before you add another bottle.
- Higher is not better. We did not retrieve safe upper limits for vitamin D, so ask a doctor before going above the dose on the label.
What the claims on these listings actually mean
| Claim | What it covers | Key exclusion |
|---|---|---|
| FR- registration, verified for this exact product | The FDA has a record of the product and its maker | Not a test of what is inside, and no proof it helps you |
| “FDA certified” | A seller’s wording | The FDA does not certify food supplements. A registered one must say it has no approved therapeutic claims |
| “Boosts energy and stamina”, “mental clarity” | Marketing extras | Not shown for vitamin D. B vitamins help fatigue only when you are deficient |
| “Mood balance”, “regulates hormones and mood” | A mood claim | We found no study of vitamin D supplements treating low mood in night workers |
| “For night shift” or “for BPO workers” | A target market | No trial of these blends in night workers |
| “125% DV” | A fact about the dose | A big percentage is not a benefit |
Products we would not buy
These were for sale on Shopee when we checked, or are named in FDA advisories.
| Product | What we found | Our check |
|---|---|---|
| Nature Made vitamin D3 1000 IU softgels from resellers | FDA Advisory No. 2026-1295 (6 October 2026) names Nature Made D3 1000 IU softgels as an unregistered drug product. | Fails: unregistered |
| Webber Naturals vitamin C and melatonin products | The brand has recent advisories (2026-1275 and 2026-0451). Its vitamin D3 1000 IU tablets have an FDA record (FR-4000015181077), but we chose not to rank a brand with fresh advisories. | Brand named in advisories |
| Imports such as Life Extension, NOW Foods, Thorne and Puritan’s Pride vitamin D3 from resellers | Big-name US imports at a wide range of prices. We did not check them against the FDA portal or read their listings. | Not verified |
| Mulittea vitamin D3 1000 IU | The brand has FDA advisories on other products. We did not check this product. | Not verified |
| High-dose vitamin D3 10,000 IU capsules | Sold by small shops at ₱338. We would not take a dose that high without a doctor’s advice and a blood test. | High dose; no maker to check |
| Energy and “night shift” drinks and blends with caffeine or herbs | We did not review them. Check the label for caffeine, and the FDA portal for the exact product. | Not reviewed |
Our picks
Best checked
1. Generiq Vitamin D3 1,000 IU (60 capsules)
61/100
FDA registered
Amount stated
Official store
₱5 per day
| FDA status | Registered food supplement: “Generiq Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)” capsules, FR-2084637 (Generiq Labs, Inc., valid to 25 June 2028) |
| FDA number in listing? | No. We matched it on the FDA portal |
| Ingredients | Vitamin D3 1,000 IU (125% of the daily value) per capsule. Directions: one capsule a day with a meal, up to two “as directed by your physician” |
| Advisory found | None for this product. The brand has an unrelated advisory (2026-0163) |
| Seller | Generiq official store (680.6K shop ratings; 7 ratings on this new listing) |
| Price | ₱299 for 60 capsules (list ₱540) |
A plain vitamin D3 at a modest dose, with the amount, directions and meal advice printed, and the cheapest per day of the two we read. The listing says it is a simple option “especially when sun exposure or dietary intake is limited”, which describes a night worker’s situation.
Like other Generiq listings, it then adds a long list of benefits it cannot support: “mood balance and sustained energy”, eye health, “clear and radiant skin”, blood sugar, stress and “mental clarity”. Vitamin D is not an energy or alertness supplement. The listing is new, with seven ratings. The idea that you can take two capsules is the seller’s, not a medical one: ask a doctor before going above 1,000 IU, and ask whether you should be tested first.
Why it scored well
- Plain vitamin D3; amount and directions printed
- Registered under this product name; official store
- Lowest cost per day
Watch-outs
- Mood, energy, eye, skin, blood-sugar and “mental clarity” claims
- New listing, 7 ratings; registration number not printed
- Offers up to 2 capsules without saying to test first

2. Dr. Daily Vitamin D3 800 IU (30 softgels)
47/100
FDA registered
Number shown as “XXXX”
Dose stated twice
₱8 per day
| FDA status | Registered food supplement: “Dr. Daily Vitamin D3 800 IU” softgels, FR-4000014622788 (Ascend Nutraceuticals Inc., valid to 12 September 2027) |
| FDA number in listing? | No. The listing prints “FDA CPR XXXX”, a blank placeholder |
| Ingredients | 800 IU vitamin D3 per softgel in the ingredient list, and “1000 IU per softgel” in the pack summary |
| Advisory found | None for the brand or this product |
| Seller | Dr. Daily official store (364K shop ratings; 1.3K on this listing; 5K+ sold) |
| Price | ₱249 for 30 softgels |
A well-known brand and registered product from its own store, with simple directions (one softgel with a meal), a “do not exceed” line, and advice to ask a doctor if pregnant, breastfeeding or on medication.
The listing contradicts itself: it says 800 IU in one place and 1,000 IU per softgel in another, and it says “FDA Certified, registered with the FDA CPR XXXX”, where the registration number should be. The specification lists the brand as “Puritan’s Pride”. It claims vitamin D “helps regulate hormones and mood”, which we cannot support. It costs more per day than Generiq for a smaller dose.
Why it scored well
- Registered under this product name; official store
- Directions, “do not exceed” line, ask-your-doctor advice
- Large review base
Watch-outs
- 800 IU versus 1,000 IU in the same listing
- Registration number shown as a blank “XXXX”; wrong brand in the spec
- “Helps regulate hormones and mood”
Also considered
Melatonin. Registered 3 mg products from Pure Form, Nightol and Swanson, with their listing checks, are in our sleep supplements guide. Use them as the guide describes: low dose, before daytime sleep, and not before driving.
Other registered vitamin D3 products. The FDA portal also lists plain vitamin D3 1,000 IU as drug registrations (for example Forti-D 1000, DRP-16427) and as food supplements (True-D 1,000 IU with MCT oil, FR-4000015957223). We did not find them in Shopee’s results, so we did not read them.
Multivitamins and fish oil. Many contain vitamin D. See our fish oil guide and vitamin C guide.
Beyond supplements
- Protect your daytime sleep. A dark, cool, quiet room and a regular sleep window matter more than any capsule.
- Tell your doctor you work nights. They can check vitamin D, B12, iron and thyroid if you are very tired.
- Be careful with melatonin and driving. The AASM guideline notes that it may increase sleepiness and accident risk. Allow time for it to clear before driving or safety-critical work.
- Stop and get help if you fall asleep at the wheel or at work, feel very low, or have chest pain or fainting.
How we researched this guide
We searched Shopee for vitamin D3 and night-shift supplements on October 12, 2026, checked the brands against the FDA Philippines verification portal (food, drug and advisory records), and read two listings in full. Each was scored with our published rubric. For vitamin D we defined the key disclosures as the dose and the directions. Price per day uses one capsule a day.
The evidence summary is based on search summaries of a 2022 meta-analysis, a 2017 systematic review, the 2025 AASM guideline on shift work disorder, a Cochrane review and a 2023 trial of B vitamins. We did not read the full papers. We did not research caffeine, eye or other supplements. This guide is general information, not medical advice. It has not yet been reviewed by our health content reviewer.
Frequently asked questions
What vitamins should night shift workers take?
Vitamin D has the clearest case, because shift workers tend to have lower levels. Ask a doctor about a blood test first. B vitamins help only if you are deficient.
Do night shift workers have low vitamin D?
Studies find lower vitamin D levels in shift workers on average, but they vary widely and show a link, not a cause. Only a blood test can tell you your own level.
What is the best vitamin D supplement in the Philippines?
In our review, Generiq Vitamin D3 1,000 IU scored highest (61/100). Dr. Daily Vitamin D3 (47/100) is popular, but its listing contradicts itself on the dose.
How much vitamin D should I take?
We did not retrieve dose guidance. Ask a doctor, ideally after a blood test, and add up the vitamin D in all your supplements.
Will vitamin D give me energy for night shifts?
We found no evidence that it does. Several listings claim energy and mood benefits that go beyond the research.
Do B vitamins help with night shift fatigue?
Only if you are deficient. We found a statement that B12 supplements do not improve energy in people without a deficiency, and a trial in healthy young adults, not shift workers.
Is melatonin good for sleeping during the day?
The AASM guideline conditionally suggests it after a night shift, with very low certainty. A Cochrane review found about 24 more minutes of daytime sleep. It may make you sleepy and raise accident risk.
Can I drive after taking melatonin?
Allow time for the sleepiness to clear first. The AASM guideline notes that melatonin may increase sleepiness and accident risk.
Are "energy" and "night shift" supplements worth it?
We found no trial of these products in night workers. Check the label for caffeine, and the FDA portal for the exact product.
Is "FDA certified" real?
No. The FDA does not certify food supplements. Check the exact product name on verification.fda.gov.ph.
Is Nature Made vitamin D3 safe to buy on Shopee?
The FDA issued an advisory in October 2026 naming Nature Made D3 1000 IU softgels as unregistered. Check the exact product on the FDA portal first.
When should I see a doctor?
If you are exhausted all the time, fall asleep at work or while driving, or cannot sleep during the day for weeks.
