Best Milk for Kids 3 and Above in the Philippines: What the Listings Actually Say

No Shopee listing for 3+ milk drinks shows a nutrition table, and most say little about sugar. We compared Nestogen, Lactum, Similac, Enfagrow, Promil and PediaSure.

Our verdict

Healthy children over 3 do not need a special milk drink, and the six on Shopee that we scored say very little on their listings about what is in them. If you do buy one, Nestlé Nestogen Kid 3+ (80/100) gave the clearest listing: ingredients, allergens, a serving size and “no added table sugar”, at the lowest price per serving.

Vitaminized Lactum 3+ (68/100) gives a DHA figure but no ingredients, Similac Gainschool HMO (60/100) lists sucrose, and Enfagrow A+ Four (52/100), Promil Gold Four (48/100) and PediaSure Plus 3+ (44/100) lean on intelligence and growth claims with nothing behind them. A low score reflects the listing, not a judgment on a child who is drinking it.

These are general information, not medical advice. A child who is underweight, a picky eater or has a medical condition should be guided by a pediatrician or dietitian.

Powdered “milk drinks” for children over 3 are sold with big promises: brain, immunity, height. The Philippine FDA registers them as ordinary food products, and they cost many times more per glass than plain milk. This guide reads the Shopee listings for the things a parent can use: whether an FDA record exists, what is in the tin, how much sugar, what the seller claims and what a serving costs. It covers only products labelled for children above 3. We do not cover milks for babies and children under 3.

Prices and stock checked on October 12, 2026. FDA records checked on the FDA Philippines verification portal the same day. None of the listings prints a registration number, so we matched each by brand, product name and age range; check the number on the box. Price per serving divides the price by the number of servings in the pack, using the serving size the listing gives.

Does a child over 3 need a milk drink?

These points come from search summaries of pediatric and nutrition sources; we did not read the original reports, and most of the work concerns children up to 3. We found no guidance written specifically for children over 3.

  • Pediatricians say toddler milks are unnecessary. The American Academy of Pediatrics said in 2023 that toddler milks, powdered drinks marketed for children up to 3, are unregulated, unnecessary and nutritionally incomplete, and that a balanced diet with water and milk is enough for healthy children.
  • Added sugar is the common concern. A 2021 expert panel that included the AAP advised against toddler milks, pointing to added sugar and higher cost than cow’s milk. WHO guidelines advise that less than 10% of calories should come from added sugars, and these apply to children over 2.
  • Filipino guidance asks for milk without sugar. The FNRI’s food guide for children 3 to 5 lists dairy at meals and encourages milk with no sugar. A national survey analysed in one study found about half of Filipino children had no dairy on a given day, so getting milk into the day can matter. A milk drink is one way, and plain milk is another.
  • Marketing claims are weakly supported. Brain, immunity and growth claims on these products are rarely backed by studies in children of this age. Ask what the evidence is, in children over 3.
  • A child who is not growing well needs a doctor, not a better milk. A pediatrician or dietitian can say whether a supplement drink is needed and how much.

Products used under medical supervision: Fortini Junior 3+

Some “3+” products on Shopee are not everyday milks. Fortini Junior 3+ (Nutricia, 400 g, ₱990 on Shopee) is listed under Growing-Up Milk, but the listing calls it an “oral nutrition supplement” for “the dietary management of malnutrition” and says it is a food for special medical purposes that “must be used under medical supervision”. The FDA record matches: it is registered as a food for special medical purposes (for example FR-4000013113667, distributor GB Distributors Inc.), in the high-risk food category.

  • It is for a doctor or dietitian to direct. The listing says the amount “should be determined by a clinician or dietitian only”.
  • It is a dense, high-energy formula (1.5 kcal per ml) and is not sterile once mixed, so it must be prepared and stored carefully.
  • We do not rank it against everyday milks, and we have not added a buy button, because it is not an everyday milk.
  • If your child drinks one, the person who recommended it can tell you how long to continue and when to review it.

Price₱1,228 for 2 kg, about ₱61 per 100 g and about ₱22 per serving

The clearest listing of the six. It prints the full ingredient list and allergens, says how to prepare and store it, states that it has no added table sugar, and carries the line “Breastmilk is the best for babies up to 2 years of age and beyond. There is no substitute for breastmilk.” Its health claims use cautious wording (“may contribute to normal cognitive development”) rather than promises. It is also the cheapest per 100 g and per serving.

It still shows no nutrition facts table, so you cannot see calories, protein or total sugar, and the listing does not print the FDA number. The list includes maltodextrin and lactose, which are sugars of a kind even without table sugar. A “27 vitamins and minerals” line says nothing about how much of each is in a serving.

Why it scored well

  • Ingredients, allergens and preparation all shown
  • States no added table sugar
  • Cheapest per serving, sold with Shopee fulfilment

Watch-outs

  • No nutrition facts table; total sugar unknown

Price₱1,482 for 2.3 kg, about ₱64 per 100 g and about ₱26 per serving

The best-selling 3+ listing we read, from the brand’s official store. It gives an actual DHA amount, a serving size and clear preparation and storage instructions, and it notes that its factory is moving to Thailand and Singapore with no change to the formula.

It does not list the ingredients or a nutrition table, so you cannot see the sugar. The claims go further than the evidence shown: it says it will “strengthen your child’s immune system for stronger resistance to common infections” and calls itself “all-around development in brain, immunity and bones”. The brand’s 2019 recall concerned an infant formula and was lifted, so it does not count against this product.

Why it scored well

  • Official store, high volume and 4.9 stars
  • DHA amount and serving size given
  • Clear storage and manufacturing-change notice

A full ingredient list and allergen statement from a large official store, with a clear instruction that it should be used “as a beverage to complement the solid food diet”. That last line is the right framing for a preschool milk drink.

The ingredients include sucrose (table sugar) along with lactose and artificial vanilla flavour, and the listing gives no amounts. The text is full of garbled characters and ends with “Similac is milk formula for Infant & Child Nutrition”, a line more suited to an infant product. The FDA record we found is for the GainSchool 3+ milk drink, not named for the HMO version, so check the box.

Why it scored well

  • Full ingredient list and allergens
  • Says to use it to complement solid food
  • Large official store with strong ratings

Watch-outs

  • Sucrose in the ingredients; no amounts

Price₱2,457 for 2.3 kg after voucher, about ₱107 per 100 g

The listing says it “helps support higher intelligence”, is “the only milk with MFGM” and has “the highest levels of DHA (among staged milks)”, and it ends with a list of the brand’s other products, including milks for 0 to 6 months, 6 to 12 months and 1 to 3 years. The fine print attaches conditions to the intelligence claim (“with proper nutrition and stimulation”), but the headline is hard to miss.

It lists no ingredients, no serving size and no amount of DHA or MFGM, so none of the comparative claims can be checked from the page. Researchers describe this kind of cross-promotion, a 3+ product advertised next to infant products, as one way marketers get around the Milk Code.

Why it scored well

  • FDA records for the 3+ product, no advisory
  • Official store with large volume
  • Storage instructions and a manufacturing-change notice

Watch-outs

  • “Higher intelligence” and “only milk with MFGM” claims with no data

Price₱665 for 600 g (two sachets), about ₱111 per 100 g

The smallest and cheapest pack of the six, which is handy for trying a milk before you commit. The ingredient list is given, and the listing carries the line “Breastmilk is still the best for babies up to 2 years of age and beyond”.

The pitch is “Nurture a gifted brain, raise a gifted kid only with Promil” and a “clinically proven” milk oligosaccharide blend. The footnote says the study behind it was conducted “among infants”, so it tells you little about a child of 3 or older. There is no serving size, no directions and no nutrition table, and the text has typing errors. It also costs about ₱111 per 100 g, nearly double Nestogen.

Why it scored well

  • Small pack for a trial
  • Ingredients listed; breastmilk disclaimer

Price₱1,664 for 800 g (listed as 2% off), about ₱208 per 100 g

The brand parents recognise, sold by the manufacturer’s own store, with a very high rating. The FDA registers it as an ordinary milk drink for children above 3, in several flavours.

The listing sells it as a “nutritional supplement” for a “hard-to-feed child”, “clinically proven”, with “2X growth improvement” and an added ingredient that “helps trigger the release of growth hormones, accelerating linear growth”. None of that comes with a study or a number. The listing has no ingredients or nutrition table, says “for infants 3 years old”, and ends with “milk formula for Infant & Child Nutrition”. It costs about three times as much per 100 g as Nestogen. A child who is not growing well should be seen by a doctor before any supplement drink is started.

Why it scored well

  • Manufacturer’s official store; very high ratings
  • Registered as an ordinary milk drink
  • Clear preparation instructions

Watch-outs

  • “Clinically proven” and “2X growth” claims with no data
  • No ingredients or nutrition table
  • Highest price per 100 g of the six

How to choose, if you decide to buy one

  • Check the age on the tin. Buy only a product marked for children above 3 years old, and not an infant or 1 to 3 year product.
  • Read the back of the box, not the listing: the nutrition facts table, the ingredient list and the FDA registration number.
  • Look for the sugar. Check the “total sugars” line and whether sucrose, glucose syrup or other sugars are listed.
  • Compare price per serving, not price per tin. A 2 kg tin can be much cheaper per glass than a small one.
  • Prepare it as directed, with boiled, cooled water and clean utensils, and use it within the time on the pack.
  • Do not replace meals. A milk drink is a drink to go with food, and plain milk and water remain good choices.
  • Ask your pediatrician if your child is underweight, a very picky eater or has allergies, before starting any supplement drink.

How we researched this guide

We searched Shopee for milk for children 3 years and above on October 12, 2026, read eight listings in full and scored six of them with our published rubric: FDA registration (25), disclosure (20), claims (20), consistency (10), seller record (15) and value (10). We searched the FDA Philippines verification portal for food registrations and advisories under each brand. Because no listing prints a registration number, we matched products by brand, name and age range, and scored the registration on that basis. The rubric scores the listing, not the nutrition of the milk.

The nutrition evidence is a search summary of pediatric and nutrition sources, not the reports themselves. We exclude products for children under 3, and we have not checked the Shopee affiliate programme’s category rules for children’s nutrition. This guide is general information, not medical advice. It has not yet been reviewed by our health content reviewer.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best milk for a 3-year-old?

Plain milk and water are good choices for most healthy children. Among the milk drinks we scored, Nestogen Kid 3+ (80/100) had the clearest listing and the lowest price per serving.

Does my child need a growing-up milk after age 3?

Not usually. Pediatric groups say toddler milks are unnecessary for healthy children, and most of the evidence we found concerns children under 3. Ask your pediatrician if you are worried about your child's growth.

Are these milks FDA registered?

We found FDA food records for the 3+ products of all six brands, but no listing prints the number. Check the number on the box in the FDA portal.

How much sugar is in them?

Most listings do not say. Nestogen says "no added table sugar" and Similac lists sucrose among its ingredients. Check the nutrition facts table on the box.

Is PediaSure a medicine?

No. PediaSure Plus 3+ is registered with the FDA as an ordinary milk drink for children above 3. A doctor should guide any use for a child who is not growing well.

What is Fortini Junior 3+?

A food for special medical purposes for the dietary management of malnutrition, to be used under medical supervision. It is not an everyday milk.

Do these milks boost intelligence?

The listings say so, but none shows a study in children over 3. Brain and growth claims are weakly supported.

Can I mix it stronger so my child gets more?

No. Prepare it exactly as the pack says. Wrong dilution can harm a child.

How long can I keep an opened tin?

The listings say within three weeks (Nestogen) or one month (Lactum, Enfagrow). Follow the pack, and keep it closed in a cool dry place.

Is a bigger tin cheaper?

Per serving it usually is, but only if you finish it before it should be discarded.

Are colostrum milks for autism safe or effective?

We found no support in the listing for that claim. A milk does not treat autism, and a child with developmental concerns needs a doctor.

Is it OK to buy from small Shopee sellers?

Prefer the brand's official store. Small resellers cannot be checked in the same way, and storage and expiry matter.
