Our verdict

Boost Optimum (75/100, ₱291.63 per 100 g) is our pick for the best-documented adult nutrition drink: an exact registration, the protein blend, storage and allergens stated, and Nestlé’s own store behind it. Ensure Gold (65) has the biggest buyer record, 8,884 ratings on one listing, but its printed registration numbers did not match our search; the plant-based Ensure (62) is the cheapest per 100 g at ₱273.65.

All four are registered foods from official or Shopee-run official stores, and the ranking is about what each listing tells you, not about which drink is better for you. None of the listings gives a nutrition table or protein per serving, so check the tub. We left out Ensure Plus and the diabetes formulas (Glucerna, Nutren Diabetes): those are medical foods to use under a doctor or dietitian. General information, not medical advice.

We searched Shopee for Ensure, Boost, Sustagen and other adult nutrition drinks on October 26, 2026, read each finalist listing and shop record, and looked every brand up in the FDA Philippines portal. Only listings from official stores with a matching registration were ranked; a generic-titled Sustagen listing and resellers of Ensure went into the “careful with” table. This guide covers general adult nutrition powders; for older adults’ milk see our senior milk guide.

₱273.65 to ₱291.63

Price per 100 g across the four picks, from our calculation: the plant-based Ensure Gold 850 g at ₱2,326 is ₱273.65 and Boost Optimum 800 g at ₱2,333 is ₱291.63. Per serving, Boost Optimum’s listing says 7 servings per 800 g, about ₱333 each; the Ensure listings give no serving size in grams.

What the FDA record means for these drinks

These points are from the FDA Philippines verification portal and are general information, not medical advice.

  • All four are registered foods with FR- numbers. A registration means the company registered the product with the FDA; it is not a test of the product or a health claim.
  • Ensure Gold, Boost Optimum and Boost Fibre each have current registrations; Boost Optimum’s newest runs to 30 March 2032 and Boost Fibre’s to 21 June 2027.
  • Ensure Plus and Ensure Plus Advance are registered as foods for special medical purposes, for people who are malnourished or at nutritional risk. We did not rank them: that is for a doctor or dietitian to advise on.
  • We found no FDA advisory naming Ensure Gold, Boost Optimum or Boost Fibre.
  • The Ensure Gold listings print three FR numbers (FR-4000003657580, FR-4000002547585 and FR-4000003066056) and a 2019 permit number. We could not match those three numbers in the results the portal returns, which show only the first matches, so we matched by product type and flavour.

What the claims on these listings actually mean

ClaimWhat it coversWhat the listing does not say
“Aids in the better absorption of proteins to repair and maintain muscle mass” (Ensure Gold)The maker’s HMB claimNo study, no protein per serving and no nutrition table on the page
“May help improve your nutritional status and physical performance … in as early as 6 weeks” (Boost Optimum)A hedged result with exerciseNo study, no group tested and no amounts of the nutrients
“Gluten and lactose-free” (Ensure Gold)The product’s compositionNot a statement about milk protein: the Boost Optimum listing also warns of milk and soya
“28% less sugar and more vitamins and minerals vs. Nutren Fibre” (Boost Fibre)A comparison with the brand’s own older productThe sugar amounts and which vitamins are not given
“Plant Based Almond” (Ensure Gold Plant-Based)The title of the tubNothing in the description explains the ingredients or what differs from the vanilla tub
Claims found in the listings reviewed for this guide on October 26, 2026. We describe them; we do not endorse them.

Adult nutrition drink listings we would be careful with

ProductWhat we foundOur check
Sustagen Premium 900 g (JAS Supermart PH, ₱2,999, 4 ratings)A Mall-flagged shop whose listing says it uses “a generic title and cover photo to comply with platform rules”; the attributes say “Consumables Form: Capsules” for a powder; several near-identical listings with garbled titles from other shops have no ratings. Not scored: generic title, wrong attributes, almost no ratings
Ensure Gold 1.6 kg from regular shops (₱2,472 at 4.2 stars; ₱2,915)Resellers of the 1.6 kg tub at prices well below the Abbott store’s ₱3,929 for the vanilla 1.6 kg, with about 1,000 and 751 sold and, for one, a 4.2 rating. A price that low from a non-official shop is a reason to check the pack and expiry. Not scored: buy from the official store
Glucerna and Nutren Diabetes (diabetes formulas)Nutritional formulas for people with diabetes. Not ranked: medical supervision
Ensure Plus and Ensure Plus AdvanceRegistered as foods for special medical purposes for malnourished or at-risk adults. Not ranked: medical supervision
Listings reviewed on October 26, 2026. The FDA portal returns only the first matches for a name, so a missing entry is not proof that none exists.

How to choose an adult nutrition drink from these listings

This guide compares general adult nutrition powders. If you are choosing for an older relative, see our senior milk guide.

  • Want the clearest label: Boost Optimum names its protein blend, storage and allergens; none of the four gives a nutrition table, so check the tub.
  • Want the best-known brand: Ensure Gold has by far the most ratings (8,884 on one listing). Buy from the Abbott store; resellers undercut it, which is a reason to check the pack.
  • Want the lowest price per 100 g: the plant-based Ensure Gold 850 g at ₱273.65, but its description does not explain the product.
  • Want a fibre-focused drink: Boost Fibre names five fibre sources, with a very short listing and a registration valid to June 2027.
  • Compare per 100 g and per serving, not the tub price, and check the registration date on the pack.

General advice, not from the sources above: these are supplements to meals, not a replacement for a doctor’s or dietitian’s advice, and anyone who is underweight without a known reason, has diabetes or a kidney condition should ask one before using them.

Specifications stated800 g for 7 servings; protein blend of 50% whey and 50% casein; high in vitamins E, B6 and B12; contains probiotics and prebiotics; halal certified; lactose-free and gluten-free; store unused powder in a cool dry place and use within 4 weeks of opening; allergens: milk, soya

SellerNestlé Store (Shopee official store since June 2018, 2,205,606 followers, 4.92 shop rating, 100% response). Listing 4.93 from 1,017 ratings; search shows 3,000 sold.
Price₱2,333 for 800 g on 26 October 2026, ₱291.63 per 100 g; about ₱333 a serving at the listing’s 7 servings

The most informative listing of the four: it names the protein blend, says what it contains and what to be careful with (allergens, a four-week window after opening) and comes from Nestlé’s own store. The product name matches current food registrations exactly.

It still gives no nutrition table or protein per serving, so you cannot compare its protein with Ensure’s from the page. “May help improve your nutritional status and physical performance … in as early as 6 weeks” is the maker’s hedged claim, with no study named, and the listing’s “lactose-free” sits next to a milk allergen warning.

Why it scored well

  • Protein blend, storage and allergens stated
  • Exact registration match, one valid to 2032
  • Official Nestlé store, 2.2M followers

Watch-outs

  • No nutrition table or protein per serving
  • “6 weeks” claim has no source
  • Highest price per 100 g and about ₱333 a serving

₱285.25 per 100 g

FDA statusType-level match: Abbott Laboratories holds many “Adult Nutritional Supplement Powder Drink (Vanilla Flavor)” Ensure Gold registrations, for example FR-4000013474841 (valid to 17 December 2029) and FR-4000013089816 (valid to 28 August 2029). The listing prints FR-4000003657580, FR-4000002547585 and FR-4000003066056, which we could not match in the portal results we could list. No advisory found naming this product.
Specifications statedAdult nutritional supplement powder drink; HMB (1.5 g in two glasses); dual fibre blend (FOS and inulin); omega-3 and 6 fatty acids; high-quality protein; gluten and lactose-free; prepare 6 scoops of powder in 195 ml of cold water
Claims“Aids in the better absorption of proteins to repair and maintain muscle mass”; “support gut health”; “heart-friendly fat blend”; “helps support tissue repair”
MissingNo nutrition table, grams per serving or protein figure; “limited stocks and sale duration only” line and a 2019 permit number are pasted into the description
SellerAbbott Philippines (Shopee official store since September 2017, 507,858 followers, 4.94 shop rating, 100% response). Listing 4.93 from 8,884 ratings; search shows 20,000 sold.
Price₱2,282 for 800 g on 26 October 2026, ₱285.25 per 100 g

The biggest buyer record of the four, from the maker’s own store, with a clear preparation line and the ingredients that matter named (HMB, fibre blend, fats). Abbott holds many current Ensure Gold registrations with dates into 2029 and later.

The listing’s three printed FR numbers did not match anything we could find, and it cites a 2019 permit, so we cannot say which registration covers this tub. The muscle claims are the maker’s, with no study, and there is no nutrition table.

Why it scored well

  • 8,884 ratings at 4.93, 20,000 sold
  • Many current Ensure Gold registrations (to 2029 and later)
  • Preparation directions stated

Watch-outs

  • Printed FR numbers did not match our search
  • Muscle claims have no source; no nutrition table
  • A 2019 permit and “limited stocks” text pasted in

InconsistenciesThe title says “Plant Based Almond” but nothing in the description mentions plant-based ingredients, almond or what differs from the vanilla product; the printed FR numbers and the 2019 permit are the vanilla listing’s.
SellerAbbott Philippines (Shopee official store). Listing 4.94 from 3,671 ratings; search shows 10,000 sold.
Price₱2,326 for 850 g on 26 October 2026, ₱273.65 per 100 g

The lowest price per 100 g of the four, from the maker’s own store, with more than 3,600 ratings. The almond flavour has its own current registrations, valid to 2029 and 2031.

The description is a copy of the vanilla one: nothing explains what “plant based” means for this tub, which ingredients it uses or how the nutrients differ. Read the pack before buying if you are choosing it for dairy reasons.

Why it scored well

  • Lowest price per 100 g (₱273.65)
  • Almond flavour has its own registrations (2029, 2031)
  • 3,671 ratings at 4.94

Watch-outs

Price₱2,239 for 800 g on 26 October 2026, ₱279.88 per 100 g

A fibre-focused adult drink with an exact registration, a named list of five fibre sources and a Shopee-run official shop behind it. Its registration is classed as a food for special dietary use, so check the pack for who it is meant for.

The listing is four short lines: no nutrition table, serving size or directions, and the headline claim compares it with the brand’s own older Nutren Fibre. Registration runs to June 2027, the soonest of the four.

Why it scored well

  • Exact registration match
  • Five fibre sources named
  • Shopee-run official shop, 100% response

Watch-outs

  • No nutrition table, serving size or directions
  • Claim compares with the brand’s old product
  • Registration valid only to June 2027

How to choose and buy an adult nutrition drink on Shopee

  • Buy from the brand’s official store: the four ranked listings are from Nestlé Store, Abbott Philippines and Shopee Supermarket.
  • Compare the price per 100 g (₱273.65 to ₱291.63 here) and, where the listing gives it, the price per serving.
  • Check the registration date on the tub; Boost Fibre’s runs to June 2027.
  • Do not rely on the listing for protein or calories: none gives a nutrition table, so read the tub.
  • Avoid generic-titled listings, resellers charging different prices and listings with almost no ratings.
  • Ask a doctor or dietitian first if you have diabetes, kidney disease or unexplained weight loss.

How we researched this guide

We searched the Shopee affiliate offer list and Shopee search for Ensure, Boost, Sustagen, Anlene, Glucerna and Nutren on October 26, 2026 and read each finalist listing and shop record through Shopee. We looked every brand up in the FDA Philippines verification portal: Ensure returned dozens of Abbott food registrations, and Boost returned three Nestlé registrations; we matched the listed product and checked validity dates and advisories. We scored them with our published rubric: provenance and registration (25), disclosure (20), claims (20), consistency (10), seller record (15) and value (10). We did not use or test any product.

This guide is general information, not medical advice; read the label and ask a doctor or dietitian if unsure. We matched names to the registry but could not verify any seller’s stock, expiry or packaging. This guide has not yet been reviewed by our health content reviewer, and we have not checked the Shopee affiliate programme’s rules for this category.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ensure Gold FDA registered in the Philippines?

Abbott Laboratories holds many food registrations for Ensure Gold adult nutritional supplement powder drinks (vanilla, almond, chocolate, coffee and others). The Ensure Gold listings print three registration numbers that we could not match, so check the tub.

Is Boost Optimum FDA registered?

Yes. Nestlé Philippines has registered "Active Adult Nutritional Powder Drink (Vanilla Flavour)" Boost Optimum as FR-4000009157927 (valid to 30 March 2032) and FR-4000009134216 (valid to 20 April 2027).

Which is cheaper per 100 g, Ensure or Boost?

On 26 October 2026 the plant-based Ensure Gold 850 g was ₱273.65 per 100 g, Ensure Gold vanilla 800 g ₱285.25, Boost Fibre ₱279.88 and Boost Optimum ₱291.63.

How many servings are in a tub?

Only the Boost Optimum listing says: 7 servings per 800 g, about ₱333 each. The Ensure listings give a mixing ratio (6 scoops in 195 ml) but no serving size in grams.

Do these drinks have a nutrition table on Shopee?

No. None of the four listings gives a nutrition table or protein per serving; check the tub.

Why not rank Ensure Plus or Glucerna?

Ensure Plus is registered as a food for special medical purposes and Glucerna is for people with diabetes. Those are for use with a doctor or dietitian.

Is the plant-based Ensure different from the vanilla one?

The title says plant based and almond, but the description is the vanilla listing's text, so the page does not say how it differs.

Can I buy Ensure from other sellers?

We found resellers selling the 1.6 kg tub for well below the Abbott store's price; buy from the Abbott Philippines official store and check the pack and expiry.

Did you test these drinks?

No. We read the listings, checked the shops and the FDA portal, and scored what the sellers put in writing.
