Our verdict

We could verify only one brand of non-drug pain relief patch, WellnActiv: the Back Pain Patch (66/100, ₱185 for 2) and the Menstrual Patch (63/100, ₱185 for 2). Both are heat patches with FDA low-risk medical device registrations that match the listings. At ₱92.50 a patch they cost far more than the unbranded pads that top the sales charts.

This guide covers heat and cooling patches that are not medicines. Medicated plasters such as Salonpas and Tiger Balm are registered as drugs and are outside this guide. This is general information, not medical advice. Ongoing or severe pain should be seen by a doctor.

We searched the Shopee offer list and Shopee search for pain relief, heat and cooling patches on October 17, 2026. Almost every best seller is an unbranded pad or an herbal plaster with no registration shown, so only two listings passed our reliability check.

18.5×

WellnActiv costs ₱92.50 per patch (₱185 for 2). The unbranded self-heating pad we read from a best-selling shop costs ₱5 per patch (₱50 for 10) and shows no registration. 92.50 divided by 5 is 18.5. Prices checked October 17, 2026.

Why most pain relief patches on Shopee are not in this guide

A patch that is sold to treat a condition can be regulated as a drug, and a heat pad can be a registered medical device. We found three kinds of listing, and only the third can be scored here.

  • Medicated plasters (methyl salicylate, menthol, ginger and camphor). Salonpas Pain Relief Patch (DRHR-1353) and Tai Chi Ginger Medicated Plaster (DRHR-1401) appear in the registry as drugs, so they are outside this guide.
  • Herbal, ginger and chili plasters. The FDA has named products like these in advisories as unregistered drugs, for example “Pain Relief Neck Patches Herbal” (Advisory 2025-1641), “Knee Patch Chinese Herbal Plaster” (2025-1643), “Natural Green Leaf Pain Relief” (2026-0807 and 2026-0808) and “Coralite Pain Relief Patch” (2021-1886).
  • Self-heating pads (iron powder pads that warm up in air). These are the non-drug kind. WellnActiv is the only brand we found with registry records for them.

The heat itself is a general-purpose comfort measure. A narrative review of superficial heat for low back pain describes how low-level heat acts on temperature-sensing nerve endings, and an NHS patient guide notes that heat can cause burns if used carelessly. Those are general points, not claims about any product here, and neither says a patch is better than another heat source.

What the claims on these listings actually mean

ClaimWhat it coversKey exclusion
“Heat Relief” or “warms up to 12 hours”A self-heating pad that gives warmth. The same WellnActiv listings say to remove the patch after every hour, so the hours of heat and the wear time disagree.
“Relieves arthritis, rheumatism, cures stomach cold” (unbranded pads)A disease claim made by the seller. No registration is shown on those listings. Products sold with treatment claims have been named in FDA advisories as unregistered drugs.
“Patented technology”A marketing phrase. No patent number on the listing.
“Natural ingredients” or “safe”The pad contains iron powder, activated carbon and salt (the listing says so).Says nothing about burn risk. The warnings on the listing show heat can still burn skin.
“Pain free”A hope, not a measured result.Nothing on the listing measures pain. We do not claim any patch works.
Medical device registration (our wording)The product appears in the FDA medical device registry with a number and validity date.It is a low-risk class A registration, not proof that it relieves pain.
Claims found in the listings reviewed for this guide.

Heat patch listings we would be careful with

ProductWhat we foundOur check
Unbranded “Menstrual Cramp Pain Relief Heat Patch” pads (10, 20, 30 and 40-piece packs)The best sellers: one 10-piece listing from “Sexy Beautiful Store” (Shopee-verified shop, since May 2022, 520,103 followers) is ₱50 with 90,000 sold. Descriptions we read say the pad can “relieve arthritis”, “cure stomach cold” and “help regulate irregular menstruation”, with no brand and no registration shown. Not scored
Herbal, ginger, chili and varicose-vein heat patches in the offer listCheap multipacks (for example ₱25 for 16 patches) from sellers we did not identify, with medicine-style claims. FDA advisories name similar herbal pain patches as unregistered drugs. Not scored
Salonpas, Tiger Balm and other medicated plastersRegistered as drugs (for example Salonpas Pain Relief Patch DRHR-1353), so outside this guide.Outside scope (drugs hold)
Mitsui “far-infrared” pain relief patches and Iyasu patchesWe found no device or cosmetic registration for either name in the matches shown. The Iyasu shop we checked opened on 30 August 2024.Not scored
Puff and Bloom heat menstrual patch (₱299)The shop is Shopee-verified, since July 2020, 829,258 followers. The only Puff and Bloom entries we saw in the registry were cosmetics; no heat patch device entry in the matches shown. Not scored until a registration is found
HER Period patchShopee-verified shop, since November 2020, 9,070 followers, 15 items. We did not look up a registration. Not scored
WellnActiv Knee and Joint Patch and Neck and Shoulder PatchBoth are registered (CDRRHR-CMDN-2024-1197294 and -1197308) but the registrations are valid only to 5 December 2026, about seven weeks from the date we checked. Not ranked; recheck after renewal
Cooling gel patches for fever and kids (Koolfever, Tempra Cool Touch, Fevercare, Kleenfant)Registered as devices (for example CDRRHR-CMDN-2021-847192 for Koolfever Half for Kids). They are for fever and cooling, not pain, so are outside this guide. Several unnotified cooling patches have FDA advisories (2023-1762, 2023-0166, 2022-0216).Outside scope
Read the shop name, the exact product name and the registry before buying. “Not scored” means we could not verify, not that the product is unsafe.

Price₱185 for 2 patches, ₱92.50 per patch, checked October 17, 2026.

It is the only back-pain heat patch we could tie to a registry record, with a name that matches the listing and a registration valid for two more years. The listing also does something many do not: it lists the ingredients and warns who should not use it (diabetic people, pregnant women, anyone with heat or skin sensitivity), says not to wear it while sleeping and to do a patch test first.

It is not a bargain. At ₱92.50 a patch it costs many times more than the unbranded pads below, and the listing contradicts itself on how long to wear it. Read the pack for the wear time before you use it.

Why it scored well

  • Registry name matches the listing, valid to 2028
  • Ingredients and safety warnings stated
  • No disease or “cure” claims on the listing

Watch-outs

  • Wear-time contradiction (12 hours or remove hourly)
  • Small brand store with 1,088 followers
  • Expensive per patch

Specifications statedIngredients iron powder, activated carbon and salt; 2 patches; shelf life 36 months; wait at least 5 minutes to heat; remove after every hour.
Claims“Up to 12 hours of soothing heat”; “patented Heat Relief Technology”; “safe, natural”.
Inconsistencies“12 hours” against “remove patch after every hour”. No placement guidance for the lower abdomen. Same weight attribute mismatch (0.100g against 0.210G).

Price₱185 for 2 patches, ₱92.50 per patch, checked October 17, 2026.

The registry record is newer than the back patch’s and valid to January 2031, and the listing carries the same warnings. It is a heat patch, so it offers warmth, not a treatment for the cause of period pain.

It ranks just below the back patch because the listing has no guidance on where to place it and has the same wear-time contradiction. Severe or unusual period pain is a reason to see a doctor, not to buy a patch.

Why it scored well

  • Registration valid to 2031
  • Ingredients and safety warnings stated
  • No disease or “cure” claims

Watch-outs

  • Wear-time contradiction
  • No placement guidance
  • Expensive per patch; small brand store

How to use a heat patch more safely

These points come from the WellnActiv listings’ own warnings and from the general sources above. They are general information, not medical advice.

  • Do a patch test first, as the WellnActiv listings say, and remove the patch if it gets too hot.
  • Do not wear it while sleeping. The WellnActiv listings say not to, because of possible skin burns.
  • The WellnActiv listings say it is not recommended for diabetic people, pregnant women or anyone with heat or skin sensitivity. If that is you, ask your doctor first.
  • Follow the pack’s wear time. The listings disagree with themselves (12 hours or remove after an hour), so read the printed instructions.
  • Pain that is severe, new after an injury, spreading or not improving needs a doctor. A patch only adds warmth.
  • Check the registry: search the exact product name at the FDA portal before buying an unfamiliar patch.

How we researched this guide

We searched the Shopee offer list and Shopee search for pain relief, heat, cooling and herbal patches on October 17, 2026, widened the search by brand name (Kobayashi, Koolfever, Tiger Balm, Mitsui, Iyasu, WellnActiv and others), read the listings of the finalists, and looked each product up in the FDA Philippines verification portal. We scored them with our published rubric: provenance and registration (25), disclosure (20), claims (20), consistency (10), seller record (15) and value (10). We did not use or test any product.

The portal lookup returns only the first matches for a word, so “not found” means we did not see it. Only two products passed our reliability check, so the scores are low; the rubric gives a top score to products that state more and contradict themselves less. This guide has not yet been reviewed by our health content reviewer, and we have not checked the Shopee affiliate programme’s rules for this category.

Frequently asked questions

Is a heat patch the same as a medicated pain patch?

No. A heat patch warms the skin using iron powder and air. A medicated plaster contains drugs such as methyl salicylate or menthol and is registered as a drug. This guide covers only the first kind.

Are the WellnActiv patches FDA approved?

They have low-risk medical device registrations in the FDA portal. That is a registration, not a finding that they relieve pain.

How long should I wear a heat patch?

Follow the printed instructions. The WellnActiv listings say both “up to 12 hours” and “remove after every hour”, so we cannot say which is right from the listings.

Can I sleep with a heat patch on?

The WellnActiv listings say not to, to avoid possible skin burns. Follow that.

Are heat patches safe in pregnancy or diabetes?

The WellnActiv listings say they are not recommended for pregnant women or diabetic people. Ask your doctor before using one.

Why not recommend the cheap ₱5 heat pads?

We could not find a brand or a registration on those listings, and their descriptions claim to relieve arthritis and cure conditions. That is why they are not scored. Not scored does not mean unsafe.

Are Salonpas and Tiger Balm patches covered?

No. They are registered as drugs, and this guide is limited to non-drug patches.

Do cooling gel patches relieve pain?

The cooling patches we found are sold for fever and cooling, mostly for kids, so we did not score them for pain.

Why are the scores below 70?

Only two products passed our checks, and both have contradictions on their listings and a high price per patch. We did not raise scores to make the table look better.

Will the knee and neck patches be added?

Their registrations are valid to 5 December 2026. We will consider them once the renewal shows in the registry.

Do heat patches work for period pain?

We cannot say that any product works. Heat is a comfort measure, and severe period pain needs a doctor.

How do I check a patch is registered?

Search the exact product name at the FDA verification portal. See our guide on how to check if a product is FDA registered.
