Our verdict
Hair does not protect your scalp, and almost no spray on Shopee is both made for hair and tested at SPF 30 or higher, so the safest plan is a hat, plus a proper sunscreen on the part and hairline. We found two verified sprays. The Bioré UV Aqua Protect Mist (79/100, about ₱673) is SPF 50+ and says it can be used on hair, and the Beach Hut Hair and Scalp Clear Spray (66/100, about ₱417) is the only dedicated one but is SPF 20 and shows a November 2026 expiry.
We left out the “SPF 100” hair and scalp sprays in the Shopee offer list (₱1,083 to ₱6,871, import shops, no notification we could match) and hair styling sprays with “UV protection” claims. A spray is a convenience, not a substitute for covering up. This is general information, not medical advice.
Sun damage on the scalp is real: the skin along your part, hairline and any thinning areas gets the same sun as your face. A hair-and-scalp spray sunscreen is meant to be applied over hair without the greasy feel of a lotion. Shopee lists a few dozen, most from import shops or as hair styling products. We looked for products with an exact FDA cosmetic notification from an official or long-standing shop, read their listings in full and compared what each says about SPF, ingredients and the hair or scalp.
2 of dozens
of the sprays we looked at had an FDA notification we could match and an SPF stated on a listing that also says hair. The rest were import sprays with “SPF 100” claims, face mists not made for hair, or styling sprays.

Scalp sunburn and spray sunscreen: what the evidence says
These points come from search summaries of consumer health sites that relay American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and FDA advice, not the original pages. Treat them as general advice.
- The scalp can burn and can develop skin cancer. Sources say the skin along the hairline, along the part and in thinning or bald areas gets the same sun damage as the rest of your skin, and that thick hair does not fully protect it.
- Aim for SPF 30 or higher. One source citing the AAD recommends at least SPF 30. A hair spray at SPF 20 falls short of that.
- Use a hat first. A wide-brimmed hat covers the scalp, face and neck; sources say a baseball or trucker hat leaves the neck and ears exposed. See our sun-protection accessories guide.
- Spray the part and hairline directly, or dab a lotion or stick on them with your fingers. A spray over hair does not reliably reach skin underneath.
- Rub it in and use plenty. The AAD tip relayed by consumer sites is to coat the skin until it glistens and rub the spray in for an even layer.
- Do not inhale it or spray it at your face. Sources advise spraying close to the skin or into your hands, never near others or anyone with asthma, and in a calm place.
- Keep sprays away from flames. The FDA has reported burns from spray sunscreen near open flames, even after it seems dry.
- Reapply after swimming or sweating, as the products say, and avoid the sun between about 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. where you can.
What the claims on these listings actually mean
| Claim | What it covers | Key exclusion |
|---|---|---|
| “SPF 50+”, “SPF 20” | A lab sun protection factor measured on skin | Tested on skin, not on hair; a thin spray over hair may not reach the scalp |
| “PA++++” | A UVA protection grade used in Asia | Not stated on the Beach Hut listing |
| “For face, body and even hair” | The maker says the product is safe for hair | Not scalp-specific wording |
| “Protects hair from dryness” | A conditioning claim | Not the same as UV protection |
| “UV protection” on a styling spray | A word on a hair product | No SPF is usually tested or stated; not a sunscreen |
| “SPF 100” | A very high number | Labels above 50 are rarely backed by anything we can check; we saw it on import sprays with no brand or notification |
| “Waterproof”, “water resistant” | Holds up in water for a stated time | Reapply after swimming or sweating |
| “100% Authentic” | A Shopee Mall guarantee | Check the shop name; the claim alone proves nothing |
Hair and scalp spray listings we would be careful with
| Product | What we found | Our check |
|---|---|---|
| “Hair and Scalp Sunscreen Spray SPF 50 / SPF 100”, ₱1,083 to ₱6,871 | The top of the Shopee offer list: identical keyword titles from import shops, “83% to 90% off”, prices that vary six times over, no brand and no notification we could match. | Not scored |
| Hair serums and styling sprays with “UV protection” or “SPF 15 / SPF 30”, ₱147 to ₱314 | Bremod, HAIRFIX Hair Mist SPF15 and Estained Heatsy Peasy SPF 30 are hair products. We found notifications for other HAIRFIX and Estained products but could not match the SPF claims to a notification or a test. | Not scored |
| Belo SunExpert Sun Spritz SPF 50, ₱280 | An FDA-notified face mist from Belo (NN-1000012737261, valid to January 2027) with a full ingredient list; alcohol is the first ingredient and it is not labelled for hair. | Face only; not a pick |
| NIVEA Sun Dry Touch Refreshing Mist SPF 50 packs, ₱1,568 | A notified body mist (NN-1000013833191, valid to January 2027) listed as a 2-pack at ₱1,568; we did not check the seller. | Not labelled for hair; check the price |
| Whitening sunscreen sprays at ₱154 for 150 ml | Unbranded body sprays with “SPF45+” claims and buy-one-take-one deals. | Not scored |
| Kose Suncut and Anessa sprays from Japan, ₱417 to ₱490 | Imports we did not read in full; no local notification matched to the exact listings. | Not scored |

About ₱673
| FDA status | Bioré UV Aqua Rich Aqua Protect Mist SPF50 PA++++ is notified (Vibelle Manufacturing): NN-1000015790605, valid to February 2028, and NN-1000016242585, valid to June 2028. The notified name carries an extra “Sunny Day Picnic” and the listing says only “Aqua Protect Mist”, so check the pack |
| Specifications stated | SPF 50+ PA++++; for face, body and “even hair”; water and sweat resistant; 60 ml; full ingredient list (alcohol first, with fragrance and BHT); best before February 2028 |
| Claims | “More even UV coverage than aerosol sunscreen sprays” (a Kao test); “non-comedogenic and allergy-tested, individual results vary” |
| Missing | No scalp-specific wording and no directions beyond the description |
| Seller | Bioré PH Official Store: 7 years on Shopee, 52.4K ratings, 89K followers; 5.0 stars from 712 ratings on this listing, 3K+ sold |
| Price | ₱673 after voucher for 60 ml (about ₱1,122 per 100 ml) |
The only spray with a high SPF that says it is for hair as well as skin, from an official store with a full ingredient list and an FDA notification for the Aqua Protect Mist.
It is a face and body mist, so the label does not say “scalp”, and alcohol is the first ingredient, which can feel drying on hair. It costs about ₱1,100 per 100 ml, so a 60 ml bottle will not last long on a whole head. The “more even than aerosol” line is the maker’s own test.
Why it scored well
- SPF 50+ PA++++ and a hair claim on the listing
- Full ingredient list; official store; 5.0 stars from 712 ratings
- Water and sweat resistant by its description
Watch-outs
- Not labelled for the scalp specifically
- Alcohol first and fragranced; about ₱1,122 per 100 ml
- Notified name differs slightly from the listing; check the pack

About ₱417
| FDA status | A notified “Beach Hut Hair & Scalp SPF 20 Clear Spray Sunscreen” (Naturale Labs), NN-1000005464804, valid to May 2028 |
| Specifications stated | SPF 20; clear spray; 80 ml; protects hair and scalp from dryness caused by chlorine, sea air and sea water |
| Missing | No ingredient list, no directions, no PA or UVA rating |
| Inconsistencies | The specification lists an expiry date of 11/01/2026 and the text says “New Stocks! Expiration Date: 11/2026”, about two weeks from our check; the category is “Body” |
| Seller | Beach Hut Sunscreen: 6 years on Shopee, 73.9K ratings, 149.6K followers; 4.9 stars from 2.6K ratings on this listing, 8K+ sold, 38 in stock |
| Price | ₱417 (list ₱439) for 80 ml, about ₱521 per 100 ml |
The only spray we found that is made for hair and scalp, from a Cebu sunscreen brand with an exact FDA notification and 2.6K ratings on this listing.
It is SPF 20, well below the SPF 30 or higher that dermatology sources recommend, and the listing shows an expiry of November 2026. Read the date on the pack before you buy, and treat it as a light layer, not full protection.
Why it scored well
- Made for hair and scalp; exact FDA notification
- 4.9 stars from 2.6K ratings; 8K+ sold
- Clear spray; about ₱417
Watch-outs
- SPF 20 only, with no UVA rating stated
- Listing shows an expiry of November 2026
- No ingredient list or directions
How to protect your scalp and hair from the sun
- Start with a wide-brimmed hat and shade, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Put SPF 30 or higher on the part, hairline and thinning areas, with a lotion, stick or a spray you rub in.
- Check the SPF and the date on the pack of any hair spray, and prefer one that names a notification.
- Do not rely on a styling spray that mentions “UV protection”.
- Reapply after swimming or sweating.
- Spray carefully: in a calm place, close to the skin, away from faces and flames.
- Look at your scalp now and then and see a dermatologist about any spot that bleeds, scabs or does not heal.
How we researched this guide
We searched the Shopee affiliate offer list and Shopee search for hair and scalp sunscreen sprays on October 15, 2026. The offer list was mostly import sprays with SPF 100 claims and no brand, so we widened to Shopee search and brand searches and kept products from the brand’s own or an official store that we could match to an exact FDA cosmetic notification in the FDA Philippines verification portal. We read the listings in full and scored them with our published rubric: FDA status and provenance (25), disclosure of ingredients and sizes (20), claims (20), consistency (10), seller record (15) and value (10). We did not use either product.
The evidence points come from search summaries of consumer health sites relaying AAD and FDA advice, not the original pages. This guide is general information, not medical advice. It has not yet been reviewed by our health content reviewer, and we have not checked the Shopee affiliate programme’s rules for sunscreen sprays.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need sunscreen on my scalp?
Sources say the skin along your part, hairline and any thinning or bald areas can burn and can develop skin cancer, and that thick hair does not fully protect it. A hat and sunscreen on exposed scalp skin are the usual advice.
What is the best hair and scalp sunscreen spray in the Philippines?
Of the two we could verify, the Bioré UV Aqua Protect Mist (79/100, about ₱673) is SPF 50+ and says it can be used on hair. The Beach Hut Hair and Scalp Clear Spray (66/100, about ₱417) is made for hair and scalp but is SPF 20.
Does hair spray with SPF protect my scalp?
A styling spray that mentions UV or SPF is a hair product, and we could not match those claims to a notification or test. For the scalp, use a product sold as a sunscreen.
Is SPF 20 enough?
Dermatology advice relayed by consumer sites is SPF 30 or higher. SPF 20 gives less protection, so use a hat too.
Can I use a face or body sunscreen spray on my hair?
Check the label. Bioré says its mist is for face, body and hair; most others, such as the Belo face mist, are not labelled for hair.
How do I apply spray sunscreen safely?
Spray close to the skin or into your hands, do not inhale it or spray at your face, use it in a calm place, rub it in and keep it away from flames.
Are the "SPF 100" hair and scalp sprays real?
We could not match them to any notification. They came from import shops with no brand, at prices from ₱1,083 to ₱6,871.
Why does the Beach Hut listing show an expiry of November 2026?
The specification says 11/01/2026 and the text says new stocks expire 11/2026. Check the date on the pack before you buy.
Will sunscreen spray make my hair greasy?
Mists are lighter than lotions, but alcohol-based sprays can feel drying. Try a small amount first.
What does FDA-notified mean?
The company told the FDA about the cosmetic and got a notification number. It is not a test of safety or of the SPF.
