Our verdict

No gel removes a scar, and on Shopee the main danger is not choosing the wrong gel but buying a fake “Dermatix” at a third of the price. We could verify only two products. The Dermatix Ultra Scar Gel 15 g (78/100, about ₱1,130) is a registered silicone gel sold by the company that holds the registration, and the Tiny Buds Lighten Up scar gel (71/100, about ₱169) is a gentle cosmetic for dark marks.

Dozens of “Dermatix Ultra” listings at ₱137 to ₱600, marked “-80%”, come from shops other than the maker’s, and one of them describes the product as a “body lotion” with “glycerin, lime”, made in Australia. Buying a scar gel does not replace seeing a doctor about raised, painful or growing scars. This is general information, not medical advice.

A scar gel is meant to soften, flatten or fade a scar that has already formed and closed. Silicone gels are registered in the Philippines as medical devices, not cosmetics, while “lightening” scar gels are cosmetics. Gels with heparin and onion extract, such as Contractubex, are registered as medicines and are outside this guide. Shopee lists hundreds of “scar remover” products; we kept to the ones we could tie to an FDA registration and to a seller we could identify.

₱137 to ₱1,130

is the price range of “Dermatix Ultra Scar Gel 15 g” listings in one search. The one from the registrant’s own shop is ₱1,130; most of the rest cost under ₱600 and come from other shops.

Scars and scar gels: what the evidence says

These points come from search summaries of a Cochrane review, American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) pages and a small trial, not from the original documents. Treat them as general advice.

  • The evidence for silicone is weak. The Cochrane review of silicone gel sheeting for raised (hypertrophic and keloid) scars found most studies were of poor quality and it is unclear whether silicone prevents or treats abnormal scars. There was weak evidence of a benefit in preventing them in people prone to scarring.
  • No gel removes a scar. At best a silicone gel may soften, flatten or fade a raised scar over weeks to months. The listings that promise to “remove” or “erase” scars are not backed by this evidence.
  • Wait until the wound has closed. The listing directions say to start once stitches are out and the scar has dried. The AAD says to put sunscreen on a scar after the wound has healed.
  • Protect the scar from the sun. The AAD advises sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher on scars the clothing does not cover, which may help limit red or brown discoloration. See our sunscreen guide.
  • Pitted acne scars are different. We found no evidence that a silicone gel alone helps depressed (atrophic) acne scars. One small trial found it may help only as an add-on after laser treatment. A dermatologist can advise on those.
  • See a doctor for raised, painful, itchy or growing scars, keloids, and scars on joints or the face. Medicines such as heparin and onion-extract gels are for a doctor or pharmacist to advise on.
  • Stop and ask a doctor if a gel causes a rash, swelling or pain.

Scar gel listings we would be careful with

ProductWhat we foundOur check
“Dermatix Ultra Scar Gel” at ₱137 to ₱600 from many small shopsThe registered Dermatix is sold by Menarini Consumer Health at ₱1,130. The cheaper listings are from other shops. One is 22 months old with 6 shop ratings and shows “1K+ sold” on a listing with a single rating, and describes the gel as made in Canada. Another, from a five-year-old shop with 10.8K ratings, says origin Australia, ingredients “glycerin, lime” and category “body lotion”. Another is a “Thai version” with “buy 2 get 1”.Do not buy; likely not the registered product
“Dermatix Ultra Kids” and “Korean import” listings, ₱1,200 to ₱2,225Import resellers pricing the kids gel far above the maker’s shop; we did not verify them.Compare with the maker’s shop
Kelo-cote silicone gel, ₱372 to ₱1,650Sold by shops including a Hong Kong import at ₱1,650; we found no Philippine registration for Kelo-cote in the FDA portal. Not scored
Mederma scar cream and gel, ₱815 to ₱2,683Many resellers at very different prices; we found no Philippine registration for Mederma in the FDA portal. Not scored
Contractubex and “Scartubex” gels, ₱260 to ₱429Heparin, onion extract and allantoin gels are registered medicines. The Shopee listings carry titles like “Acne Scars Treatment” at 73% off.Outside this guide; ask a doctor or pharmacist

About ₱1,130

FDA statusRegistered as a medical device, not a cosmetic: “Dermatix Ultra Gel (Polysiloxane + Vitamin C)” (A. Menarini Philippines), CDRRHR-CMDN-2025-01123, decided June 2025; earlier Dermatix Ultra Gel and Ultra Kids notifications also listed
Specifications statedSilicone gel with “CPX” technology and vitamin C ester; 15 g; quick-drying and non-oily; expiry 20 November 2028; directions (a pea-sized amount in a thin even layer, let it dry before makeup or sunscreen); also sold as 5 g (₱549) and 2 x 5 g (₱933)
Claims“Helps lighten, soften and flatten scars”; “improves scar appearance, texture and color”
MissingNo full ingredient list and no study shown for the claims
SellerMenarini Consumer Health, the company that holds the registration: 11 months on Shopee, 1.8K ratings, 2.5K followers; 5.0 stars from 115 ratings on this listing, 434 sold; the guarantee line shows Product Liability Protection but not “100% Authentic”
Price₱1,130 for 15 g (about ₱7,533 per 100 g)

The only silicone scar gel we could verify from the registrant’s own shop, with a device registration that matches the name, a printed expiry date of November 2028 and clear directions.

It costs three to four times what the lookalikes charge, and that is the point: the cheaper “Dermatix” listings are not from this shop. The shop is young, and “lighten, soften and flatten” is the maker’s claim; the evidence for silicone gels is weak (see below). It will not fill pitted acne scars.

Why it scored well

  • Registered medical device matching the name
  • Sold by the company that holds the registration
  • Expiry date and directions stated; 5 g trial size at ₱549

Watch-outs

  • About ₱1,130 for 15 g
  • No ingredient list or study shown
  • Evidence for silicone gels is weak; it will not remove a scar

Gentle cosmetic for marks, not scars

SellerTiny Buds Baby Naturals Official Shop: 10 years on Shopee, 3.6M ratings, 1.3M followers; 4.9 stars from over 10K ratings on this listing, 10K+ sold
Price₱169 (list ₱199)

A low-cost cosmetic from a baby-care brand’s official shop, with an exact FDA notification and over 10K ratings, aimed at dark marks left by bites, scratches and chicken pox.

It is a lightening gel, not a silicone gel, so it will not flatten a raised scar, and “natural ingredients” is not a list. It is the kind of product to try on a mark, not on a keloid or a surgical scar.

Why it scored well

  • Exact FDA notification; official store
  • Over 10K ratings; 10K+ sold; about ₱169
  • Gentle, low-risk product for marks

Watch-outs

  • No ingredient list
  • Not a silicone gel; will not flatten raised scars
  • “Acne scars” claim is broad; pitted scars are not helped by a gel

How to choose and use a scar gel

  • Match the product to the scar: a silicone gel for raised or surgical scars, a gentle lightening gel for dark marks, and a dermatologist for pitted acne scars and keloids.
  • Buy from the maker’s own shop or an official store, and be suspicious of a price a third of the maker’s.
  • Look up the exact product in the FDA portal and check the expiry date on the pack.
  • Start only when the wound has closed, apply a thin layer as directed and be consistent for weeks or months.
  • Wear sunscreen on the scar in the daytime.
  • Do not expect a scar to vanish. A scar can fade or flatten; it rarely disappears.
  • See a doctor for a scar that is raised, painful, itchy, growing or in a joint.

How we researched this guide

We searched the Shopee affiliate offer list and Shopee search for scar gels on October 15, 2026. The offer list was mostly unbranded “scar removal” gels at 90% off and “Dermatix”-named copies, so we widened to Shopee search and brand searches. Silicone scar gels are registered as medical devices in the Philippines, so we looked them up in the device section of the FDA Philippines verification portal, and the cosmetics in the cosmetic notification section. We read the listings in full and scored them with an adapted version of our published rubric: registration and provenance (25), disclosure (20), claims (20), consistency (10), seller record (15) and value (10). We did not use either product.

The evidence points come from search summaries of a Cochrane review, AAD pages and a small trial, not the original documents. This guide is general information, not medical advice. It has not yet been reviewed by our health content reviewer, and we have not checked the Shopee affiliate programme’s rules for scar gels or medical devices.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best scar gel in the Philippines?

Of the two we could verify, the Dermatix Ultra Scar Gel (78/100, about ₱1,130 for 15 g) is a registered silicone gel sold by the company that holds the registration. The Tiny Buds Lighten Up (71/100, about ₱169) is a gentle cosmetic for dark marks.

Does scar gel really remove scars?

No. At best a silicone gel may soften, flatten or fade a raised scar over weeks to months, and the evidence for that is weak.

Is the cheap "Dermatix Ultra" on Shopee real?

We could not verify it. The registered gel is sold by Menarini Consumer Health at ₱1,130 for 15 g, and the listings at ₱137 to ₱600 come from other shops, some with descriptions that do not match the product.

Is a scar gel a cosmetic?

Silicone scar gels are registered as medical devices in the Philippines. "Lightening" scar gels are cosmetics. Heparin and onion extract gels such as Contractubex are medicines.

When should I start using a scar gel?

After the wound has closed and stitches are out, as the listing directions say. Ask your doctor about a fresh surgical wound.

Does silicone gel work for acne scars?

We found no evidence that silicone gel alone helps pitted acne scars. A small trial found it may help only after laser treatment. Ask a dermatologist.

Do I need sunscreen on a scar?

Yes. The AAD advises sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher on a healed scar, which may help limit red or brown discoloration.

Is Contractubex safe to buy on Shopee?

It is a registered medicine, which this guide does not review. Ask a doctor or pharmacist, and be careful with listings that name it with "acne scars treatment" at steep discounts.

What about Kelo-cote and Mederma?

Both are sold on Shopee at very different prices by many shops, and we found no Philippine registration for either in the FDA portal, so we did not score them.

Does a registration mean the gel works?

No. A device registration or cosmetic notification means the product was registered or notified, not that it was tested for results.
