Our verdict
Perla Pure Liquid Hand & Body Soap (79/100, about ₱0.35 per ml) is the best value, and Human Nature Natural Hand Soap (77/100) has the most complete listing. All five picks are notified with FDA Philippines under their exact names and sold by the brands’ own Mall stores.
No listing scored 80. “Plant-based” has no legal definition, and the listings make claims their own ingredient lists contradict: an “SLS-free” soap built on an alkyl sulfate, a “99.9% germ-killing” wash with no antiseptic, a soap with “no foaming agents”. Any soap works by lifting dirt and germs off the skin so water can rinse them away. This is general information, not medical advice.
We searched the Shopee affiliate offer list and Shopee search for plant-based and natural hand soaps on October 17, 2026, read the listings from brand and Mall stores, and looked each one up in the FDA Philippines cosmetic notification list. We kept liquid hand soaps that describe a plant-derived formula and are notified under their own name.

How much more per millilitre the 50 ml Messy Bessy hand wash costs (about ₱4.10) than the 500 ml (about ₱1.02), on 17 October 2026. In both picks sold in two sizes, the larger one is cheaper per ml.

What “plant-based” means on a hand soap
General information about how these soaps are made, from the listings’ own ingredient lists. There is no legal definition of “plant-based” or “natural” for soap.
| Cleanser type | Examples in our picks | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| True soap (castile) | BENCH/ Organics; Perla says coconut oil | Plant oils turned into soap. Alkaline; can feel drying on some skin |
| Coconut-derived mild surfactants | Coco betaine (Wonderhome), coco-glucoside (Human Nature) | Made from coconut or palm oil; usually gentle and sulfate-free |
| Alkyl sulfates | Sodium C12-18 alkyl sulfate (Human Nature’s first cleanser) | Can be made from plant oils, so “plant-based” and “contains a sulfate” can both be true |
| Antibacterial actives | None in our picks | Not needed for everyday handwashing (see below) |
- Plain soap is enough at home. The US FDA says it has no evidence that consumer antibacterial washes work better than plain soap and water, and in 2016 it stopped 19 antibacterial ingredients, including triclosan, being sold in consumer hand and body washes (FDA consumer update).
- Technique matters more than the brand. The US CDC says to wet, lather the backs of the hands, between the fingers and under the nails, scrub for at least 20 seconds, rinse under running water and dry with a clean towel (CDC).
- Soap and water first, sanitizer second. The CDC says soap and water are best in most situations; if they are not available, use an alcohol-based sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
- “Kills 99.9% of germs” on a plain hand wash describes washing them away, not a disinfectant. None of our picks lists an antiseptic ingredient.
What the claims on these listings actually mean
| Claim | What it covers | Key exclusion |
|---|---|---|
| “Plant-based”, “natural”, “99.80% natural” | Where the ingredients come from | No legal definition; a plant-derived sulfate counts |
| “SLS/SLES-free” | No sodium lauryl sulfate or laureth sulfate | Other alkyl sulfates, such as sodium C12-18 alkyl sulfate, are the same family |
| “Kills 99.9% of bacteria, germs and viruses” | An antimicrobial claim | No antiseptic in the ingredient list and no test named; washing removes germs |
| “No detergents, foaming agents” | A free-from claim | Castile soap is itself the cleansing, foaming agent |
| “No preservatives” | A free-from claim | Water-based products without preservatives need careful storage; use them up |
| “Hypoallergenic”, “dermatologist-tested” | A description | No test or result named; any product can irritate someone |
| “Vegan”, “cruelty-free” | An ethics claim | No certifier named on the listings we read |
| “Antiseptic”, “Acne Treatment”, “Hair Removal” (listing fields) | Shopee attribute boxes | Not things a hand soap does; the fields contradict the product |
| “Biodegradable” | An environmental claim | No standard or test named |
Hand soap listings we would be careful with
| Product | What we found | Our check |
|---|---|---|
| Eco Love All Natural Coco Castile Soap, ₱104 to ₱597 (Ecò Love Philippines, regular shop) | A popular local castile soap, but we found no FDA notification under the Eco Love name. Claims to be “one of the Top 10 Organic Soaps in the Philippines” with no source, says it is “safe for newborns”, and its fields tick “Eczema” and “Anti Bacterial”. | Not scored (notification not found) |
| Dr. Bronner’s 18-in-1 Pure-Castile Soap, ₱350 to ₱1,587 (resellers) | Notified in the Philippines by Rezostar Corporation, but the listings we read are from other shops; “Certified Fair Trade” and “organic” name no certifier, and the concentrate is meant to be diluted. | Not scored (not the registered distributor) |
| “Plant-based” gallon hand soaps (MaxSafe and unbranded), ₱262 to ₱698 | Repacked gallons that claim “plant-based” and “virgin coconut oil” with no brand notification we could match. | Not scored |
| DIY “just add water” hand soap kits, ₱99 to ₱355 (up to 20K sold) | You mix the soap yourself, so neither the strength nor the preservation of the finished soap is controlled. | Not scored |
| “Hotel scent”, “perfume-inspired”, “designer-inspired” gallon hand soaps, ₱150 to ₱395 | Named after hotels and perfume brands we could not link to licensed products; several add “antibacterial” claims. | Not scored |
| Antibacterial hand soaps (Safeguard, Green Cross, Lifebuoy, Lysol) | Well-known and sold by official stores, but not plant-based, so outside this guide; the US FDA says antibacterial washes are no better than plain soap at home. | Outside this guide |
| Paper soap sheets, ₱9 to ₱59 | Unbranded travel sheets with no ingredient list. | Not scored |
| Cross-border “natural plant-based” hand washes in the offer list | Foreign-language listings, some claiming “medical” or “surgical” use, and whitening bar soaps with Indonesian registration marks. | Not scored |

₱0.35 per ml
| FDA status | Perla Pure Liquid Hand & Body Soap NN-1000014597830 (SCPG Asia-Pacific, valid to 23 May 2028); no advisory naming it |
| What the listing states | “Pure coconut oil and natural ingredients”; for hands and body; how to use; 480 ml pump bottle |
| Claims | “Hypoallergenic & Derma-Tested – Safe for sensitive skin” |
| Missing | No ingredient list, country of origin or shelf life |
| Seller | Perla Philippines (Shopee Mall): joined 2022, 124K followers, 100% response; 4.90 stars from 16,458 ratings on this listing, 50K+ sold |
| Price | ₱170 for 480 ml, about ₱0.35 per ml |
The lowest price per millilitre of our picks, from a long-known coconut-oil soap brand’s own Mall store with over 16,000 ratings, and notified under its exact name. It doubles as a body wash.
The listing gives no ingredient list, so “pure coconut oil and natural ingredients” cannot be checked, and “safe for sensitive skin” is a promise no soap can make for everyone. Ask the store for the label if you want to see what is in it.
Why it scored well
- About ₱0.35 per ml, the cheapest
- Exact FDA notification, valid to 2028
- Brand’s own store; 16,458 ratings
Watch-outs
- No ingredient list on the listing
- “Safe for sensitive skin” cannot be guaranteed
- No origin or shelf life stated

77/100
Fullest ingredient list; its “SLS-free” claim needs a footnote
2. Human Nature Natural Hand Soap, 490 ml or 1 L (Human Nature Official Store)
ShopeeCoconut-based cleansers
Full ingredient list
1 L refill size
₱0.50 per ml (1 L)
| FDA status | Human Nature Natural Hand Soap NN-1000015452998 (Gandang Kalikasan, valid to 16 Jan 2029) and two older records; no advisory naming it |
| Key ingredients stated | Sodium C12-18 alkyl sulfate (first cleanser), coco-glucoside, glycerin, sodium lactate, vitamin E, orange peel oil (Citrus), fragrance, sodium benzoate |
| Claims | “SLS/SLES-free”; “99.80% natural”; “biodegradable coconut-based cleansing formula” |
| Inconsistencies | Sodium C12-18 alkyl sulfate is in the same family as SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate is the C12 member). Listing fields tick “Antiseptic”, “Hair Removal” and “Acne Treatment”, and give the volume as 100 ml |
| Seller | Human Nature Official Store (Shopee Mall): joined 2021, 561K followers, 91% response; 4.96 stars from 1,338 ratings on this listing, 5K+ sold |
| Price | ₱299 for 490 ml (about ₱0.61 per ml) or ₱499 for 1 L (about ₱0.50 per ml) |
The most complete listing among our picks: the full ingredient list for both scents, the country of origin (the Philippines) and a shelf life, from the brand’s own store and notified under its name. The 1 L size brings the price close to the cheapest.
Its headline “SLS/SLES-free” is technically narrow: the first cleanser is an alkyl sulfate from the same family as SLS. That is not unsafe, but it is not what most buyers will read into the claim. The listing fields also tick treatments a hand soap cannot provide.
Why it scored well
- Full ingredient list for each scent
- Made in the Philippines; shelf life stated
- 1 L size at about ₱0.50 per ml
Watch-outs
- “SLS-free” yet its main cleanser is an alkyl sulfate
- “Antiseptic”, “Acne Treatment” fields
- Fragrance in both scents
Gentle-cleanser formula, but a germ claim it cannot back
3. Wonderhome Naturals Natto Hydrating Hand Wash, 450 ml (Wonderhome Naturals PH)
Shopee74/100
Coco betaine cleanser
Full ingredient list
Essential-oil scents
₱0.64 per ml
| FDA status | WONDERHOME NATURALS NATTO HYDRATING HAND WASH NN-1000007128179 (Boosterfoods, valid to 10 Jan 2028); no advisory found |
| Key ingredients stated | Coco betaine, lactic acid, vegetable glycerin, natto extract, hydrogenated jojoba oil, essential oils (lavender and cedarwood, sage, or grapefruit and mandarin), “plant-derived scents” |
| Claims | “Kills 99.9% of bacteria’s, germs, and viruses”; “lab-tested for sensitive skin”; “100% natural fragrance” |
| Inconsistencies | No antimicrobial ingredient, test or source behind the 99.9% claim; a listing field shows an expiry date of 23 October 2023 |
| Seller | Wonderhome Naturals PH (Shopee Mall): joined 2021, 33.1K followers, 50% response; 4.97 stars from 293 ratings on this listing, 1K+ sold |
| Price | ₱290 for 450 ml, about ₱0.64 per ml |
A coconut-derived, sulfate-free cleanser with the full ingredient list for each scent, notified under its exact name, and the only listing that tells you to wash for 20 seconds, as the CDC advises.
“Kills 99.9% of bacteria, germs, and viruses” is not backed by anything on the page, and nothing in the ingredient list is an antiseptic. Soap and water remove germs by washing them off, which is what any hand soap does. A listing field also shows an expiry date in 2023; ask the store for the date on the stock.
Why it scored well
- Sulfate-free coco betaine cleanser
- Full ingredient list; says to wash 20 seconds
- Exact FDA notification, valid to 2028
Watch-outs
- “Kills 99.9%” claim with no support
- Expiry field shows 2023
- Store answers half its chats

69/100
Castile (true soap)
Refill pouch
Multi-use
₱0.42 per ml
| FDA status | BENCH/ ORGANICS LAVENDER CASTILE SOAP NN-1000014671758 (Suyen Corporation, valid to 22 May 2028); no advisory naming it |
| What the listing states | “Made from pure natural oils”; for face, body, hair and home use; 450 ml refill |
| Claims | “No parabens, preservatives, detergents, foaming agents or synthetic fragrances”; “safe for daily use even on sensitive skin” |
| Inconsistencies | Castile soap is itself a cleansing, foaming agent, so “no detergents, foaming agents” is hard to square with a soap. No ingredient list |
| Seller | BENCH (Shopee Mall): joined 2018, 2.92M followers, 59% response; 4.84 stars from 195 ratings on this listing, 1K+ sold |
| Price | ₱189 for 450 ml, about ₱0.42 per ml |
A plant-oil castile soap in a refill pouch at a low price per millilitre, from a well-known local brand’s Mall store, notified under its exact name. Castile soap is the most literally “plant-based” cleanser here: oils made into soap.
The listing has no ingredient list and its “no detergents, foaming agents” line describes something a soap cannot be. “No preservatives” means you should keep the pouch closed and use it up. Castile soap is alkaline and can feel drying on some skin.
Why it scored well
- Plant-oil castile soap
- Refill pouch at about ₱0.42 per ml
- Exact FDA notification, valid to 2028
Watch-outs
- No ingredient list
- “No detergents, foaming agents” for a soap
- No preservatives: keep sealed

63/100
Vegan claim
Hand and body
Exact FDA match
₱1.02 per ml
| FDA status | MESSY BESSY LAVENDER DREAM HAND & BODY WASH NN-1000014393311 (Calm Sands, valid to 18 Mar 2028); a 2021 advisory on a different Messy Bessy product was lifted in 2022 |
| What the listing states | Gently cleanses and nourishes; moisturizing ingredients; lavender scent |
| Claims | “Hypoallergenic. Dermatologist-tested. Cruelty-Free. Vegan.” (no certifier or test named) |
| Missing | No ingredient list, origin or shelf life |
| Seller | Messy Bessy (Shopee Mall): joined 2016, 38.5K followers, 29% response; 4.91 stars from 23 ratings on this listing, 63 sold, listed March 2026 |
| Price | ₱509 for 500 ml, about ₱1.02 per ml; the 50 ml is ₱205, about ₱4.10 per ml |
A Filipino plant-based brand on Shopee since 2016, with a hand and body wash notified under its exact name.
The listing is four sentences long, with no ingredient list, and the vegan, cruelty-free and dermatologist-tested claims name no certifier or test. It is the most expensive per millilitre of our picks, and the 50 ml size costs four times as much per millilitre as the 500 ml. The store answers fewer than a third of its chats.
Why it scored well
- Exact FDA notification, valid to 2028
- Local plant-based brand since 2016
- Hand and body use
Watch-outs
- No ingredient list
- About ₱1.02 per ml; 50 ml is ₱4.10 per ml
- Only 23 ratings; 29% chat response
How to choose a plant-based hand soap
- Read the first cleanser in the ingredient list, not the front label. Coco betaine and coco-glucoside are mild; castile soap is true soap; an alkyl sulfate is a stronger cleanser even when plant-derived.
- Skip “antibacterial” for home use. Plain soap and water, scrubbed for 20 seconds, is what the CDC recommends.
- Buy the big size or the refill. Larger sizes cost less per millilitre: Human Nature’s 1 L and Messy Bessy’s 500 ml are both cheaper per ml than their small bottles.
- Sensitive or dry skin? Choose fragrance-free if you can, avoid strong essential oils, and moisturise after washing.
- Check the notification in the FDA verification portal. FDA notifies cosmetics; it does not approve them.
- Treat “no preservatives” soaps with care: keep the pouch sealed, do not top up an old bottle, and use it within its shelf life.
- Buy from the brand’s own store, not repacked gallons that borrow a brand or “plant-based” label.
How we researched this guide
We searched the Shopee affiliate offer list and Shopee search for plant-based, natural and castile hand soaps on October 17, 2026, then searched by brand (Human Nature, Perla, Wonderhome, Messy Bessy, BENCH/, Eco Love, Dr. Bronner’s, Method, Mrs. Meyer’s and others) and checked the brands’ own stores. We identified each shop (Mall status, year joined, followers, ratings, response rate), read the full listings and looked each product up in the FDA Philippines verification portal, including advisories. We scored five with our published rubric: provenance and notification (25), disclosure (20), claims (20), consistency (10), seller record (15) and value (10). We did not use or test any product.
The portal search returns only the first matches for a word, so a product we list as “not found” may be notified under a name we did not try. The handwashing points come from the US FDA and CDC; they are general information, not medical advice. This guide has not yet been reviewed by our health content reviewer, and we have not checked the Shopee affiliate programme’s rules for this category.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best plant-based hand soap in the Philippines?
Of the hand soaps we could match to an FDA notification, Perla Pure Liquid Hand & Body Soap (79/100, about ₱0.35 per ml) is the best value, and Human Nature Natural Hand Soap (77/100) has the most complete listing.
Is plant-based hand soap as effective as regular soap?
Any soap works by lifting dirt and germs off the skin so water can rinse them away. The CDC says to scrub for at least 20 seconds; the type of soap matters less than the technique.
Do I need antibacterial hand soap?
Not for everyday use at home. The US FDA says it has no evidence antibacterial washes work better than plain soap and water.
Is Human Nature hand soap SLS-free?
It contains no sodium lauryl sulfate by that name, but its first cleanser is sodium C12-18 alkyl sulfate, from the same family. It is a cleanser, not a safety concern, but it is not sulfate-free.
Does Wonderhome hand wash kill 99.9% of germs?
The listing claims it, but names no antiseptic ingredient or test. Washing with any soap removes germs; we did not count the claim in its favour.
What is castile soap?
Soap made from plant oils, traditionally olive or coconut. It is true soap, alkaline, and can be drying for some people.
Can I use hand soap as body wash?
Perla and Messy Bessy are sold for hands and body. Check the label of others.
Is hand sanitizer better than soap?
The CDC says soap and water are best in most situations; use an alcohol-based sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol when soap is not available.
Why does the 50 ml bottle cost so much more?
Small bottles cost more per millilitre. The Messy Bessy 50 ml is about ₱4.10 per ml against about ₱1.02 for the 500 ml.
Is Eco Love castile soap FDA notified?
We found no notification under the Eco Love name on 17 October 2026. Ask the shop for the number before buying.
Are "hotel scent" hand soaps safe?
We could not link them to the hotels or perfumes they are named after, and could not match them to a notification. We did not score them.
Is "vegan" hand soap certified?
Not on the listings we read: Messy Bessy says vegan and cruelty-free but names no certifier.
