Our verdict

A shaving cream mostly buys glide, and a plain moisturizer afterward matters more for dry, tight skin than a scented aftershave. Of the six we scored, all with an exact FDA notification, the Human Nature Shaving Cream (85/100, ₱199) is the only shaving product with a full ingredient list, the Gillette Foamy Lemon Lime (74/100, about ₱261) is the classic foam from an official store, and the Vaseline Pro Derma cream (76/100, ₱665) is a plain fragrance-free moisturizer to use after.

We could not verify a post-shave balm. The NIVEA Men balm is sold on Shopee only by resellers at ₱520 to ₱2,719, and we found no notification for the Felipe and Sons balm. Skin care is not treatment: if you get painful razor bumps, see a doctor. This is general information, not medical advice.

Shaving cream, foam and gel all do the same job: soften the beard and let the razor glide. After shaving, a moisturizer or soothing balm helps skin that feels dry or tight. Shopee lists hundreds of each, from ₱50 unbranded “shaving cream” to ₱5,000 imported aftershaves. We kept to brands with an exact FDA cosmetic notification, sold by their own or an official store, and compared what each listing states, claims and costs.

₱520 to ₱2,719

is the price span we found for the same 100 ml NIVEA Men Sensitive post-shave balm from different resellers, with no official store in the results. A famous product sold by many small shops is the easiest place to overpay or buy a fake.

Prices and stock checked on October 15, 2026. FDA notification numbers were looked up in the FDA Philippines verification portal on October 15, 2026; a notification means the cosmetic was notified, not that the FDA tested it. We did not shave with any product; the figures are those in the listings.

How to shave and what to put on afterward

These points come from copies of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) shaving tips and razor-bump advice found through search, not the AAD page itself. Treat them as general advice.

  • Shave when skin is warm and wet. Right after a shower, or with a warm damp washcloth held to the area, hair is softer and less likely to curl into the skin.
  • Use a foaming shaving cream and let it sit for two to three minutes on thick hair. If your skin is dry or sensitive, look for one labelled for sensitive skin.
  • Shave with the grain. Shaving against it causes irritation. Rinse the blade after each stroke and replace a disposable razor or blade every five to seven shaves.
  • If you get razor bumps, try a single or two-blade razor and do not pull the skin tight; multi-blade razors can shave too closely. Shaving every day or two can also help.
  • Rinse with warm water, then calm skin with a cool damp washcloth.
  • Skip alcohol-based aftershave if your skin stings or breaks out. The AAD copies recommend a soothing aftershave made to reduce razor bumps; alcohol can sting or dry irritated skin.
  • Moisturize afterward, and use one with SPF 30 or higher in the daytime. A plain fragrance-free moisturizer is a safe default.
  • See a dermatologist for persistent bumps. The AAD says razor bumps can leave marks or scars if untreated.

Our electric shaver guide covers the other way to reduce razor bumps.

  • Labelled for sensitive skin

Watch-outs

  • Listing is only a title

How to choose a shaving cream and moisturizer

  • Look up the exact product name in the FDA verification portal.
  • Read the ingredient list when there is one, and avoid alcohol and fragrance if your skin stings or breaks out.
  • Pick a foaming cream or gel, labelled sensitive if your skin reacts, and let it sit before shaving.
  • Use a plain moisturizer afterward; a balm that cools or stings is optional.
  • Buy from the brand’s own or an official store, and be wary of one product sold at five different prices.
  • Replace the blade often and shave with the grain.
  • Switch to an electric shaver or see a doctor if razor bumps keep coming back.

How we researched this guide

We searched the Shopee affiliate offer list and Shopee search for shaving creams, aftershave balms and moisturizers on October 15, 2026. The offer list was mostly unbranded copies of one listing, so we widened to Shopee search and brand searches and kept products from the brand’s own or an official store that we could match to an exact FDA cosmetic notification in the FDA Philippines verification portal. We read the listings in full and scored them with our published rubric: FDA status and provenance (25), disclosure of ingredients and sizes (20), claims (20), consistency (10), seller record (15) and value (10). The Vaseline and CeraVe moisturizers are also reviewed in our moisturizer guide. We did not shave with any product.

The shaving advice comes from copies of AAD tips found through search, not the AAD page. This guide is general information, not medical advice. It has not yet been reviewed by our health content reviewer, and we have not checked the Shopee affiliate programme’s rules for these products.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best shaving cream in the Philippines?

Of the six we scored, the Human Nature Shaving Cream (85/100, ₱199) is the best documented, with a full ingredient list and an exact FDA notification. Gillette Foamy (74/100) is the classic foam from an official store.

Shaving foam, gel or cream?

They all soften the beard and help the razor glide. Foam is the quickest to apply, creams and gels are often gentler. Pick one labelled for sensitive skin if yours reacts.

Do I need an aftershave?

Not necessarily. The AAD copies recommend a soothing aftershave if you get razor bumps, and say alcohol-based ones can sting irritated skin. A plain moisturizer works for most people.

Is aftershave with alcohol bad?

It can sting or dry skin that is already irritated or prone to bumps. If your skin is fine with it, there is no need to stop; if it stings, switch to an alcohol-free moisturizer.

Can I use a face moisturizer after shaving?

Yes. A plain fragrance-free moisturizer is a sensible default, and the AAD copies suggest one with SPF 30 or higher for daytime.

How do I avoid razor bumps?

Shave on warm, wet skin, use a shaving cream, shave with the grain, rinse the blade, change blades often, and consider fewer blades or an electric shaver. See a dermatologist if bumps persist.

Why is the NIVEA Men balm not in your picks?

On Shopee we only found resellers at ₱520 to ₱2,719 for the same bottle, and no FDA notification for a NIVEA Men post-shave balm. We did not score it.

Is the Felipe and Sons balm FDA-notified?

We found eight notifications for the brand, none for the after shave balm or lotion, so we did not score it.

Are the ₱50 shaving creams safe?

We did not score them. They come from unknown shops with no brand or ingredients.

What does FDA-notified mean?

The company told the FDA about the cosmetic and got a notification number. It is not a test of safety or of whether the product works.
